Flower garden, taking into account local conditions
Aquilegia
I decided to take part in the competition announced by Flora Price magazine because I hope that my experience can be useful to other gardeners as well. The fact is that on my site, when creating flower beds, I faced difficulties that all gardeners who do not use the services of professional designers overcome.
When designing my site, the starting point was the construction of a house and the allocation of areas for vegetable and berry plantings. As a result, taking into account crop rotations, a number of plots were formed, on which flower beds were located.

I also want to tell you about one such site. It is a rectangle located between the house and the fence, measuring 3 meters by 8 meters. But the main difficulty in creating a composition here for me was that the lighting on this site is very diverse in duration: some are illuminated throughout the day, while the other is in deep shadow from the house and the neighbors' fence.
Therefore, I was faced with several tasks: firstly, the creation of a flower garden that would please the eye all summer, secondly, on a flat rectangular surface it was necessary to create a multi-tiered composition, and thirdly, it was necessary to select such an assortment of plants that could perfectly behave feel in such difficult conditions, and, fourthly, when creating this flower garden, I wanted to create not a static composition of perennials and annual plants, but to provide for the possibility of making annual changes, updating the range of crops.
I started to develop a plan. First, I made a list of those plants that I already had. Then, having studied the literature, in which, by the way, very little attention is paid to shade-tolerant plants that can endure our winters without significant attacks, I figured out which of them can actually be purchased in our retail network, and began to think over a plan for placing plants.

Astrantia
To begin with, we had to take into account a number of plant signs: height, demand for light, growing season, flowering duration, color of flowers and leaves, decorative effect after flowering, aroma, whether this plant is perennial or annual, does it require shelter for the winter, the number of plants required for compositions, the term of use in the flower garden.
When I compiled such a table, the plan took on a real form. And as a result, three groups of plants were formed in my flower garden in relation to the level of illumination. It is very important, in my opinion, that each group contains several plants that bloom throughout the season. When placing them, I immediately laid the area for planting new specimens so as not to crowd out the already planted plants in the future.
So, in the most shady place, where the sun is no more than three hours a day, I planted ferns, two types of lungwort (sugar and wild), swimsuits, primrose, astrantia, aquilegia and wild resin. The result is a lovely group that looks great from early spring to late autumn.
In early spring, primroses bloom, then ferns unfold their light green frond, swimsuits enter a little later, and in summer aquilegia, astrantia and smolevka delight the eye. Moreover, I must say that wild swimsuits and ferns get along well next to domesticated species.
Saxifrage
The second group of plants occupies two-thirds of the area of the flower garden. The sun illuminates this part of it in the afternoon. Plants bloom here a little later than in open areas.
Here I planted hosts, geychera and tiarella, anemones, beautiful and exceptional dicenter, kupena, lilies of the valley, violets, geraniums, skewer, euonymus, primroses, shade saxifrage, Indian dusheney, astilbe, lilies, irises, daylilies, delphiniums.
All these types of plants are located in several groups, which look like a single composition. In the background, to create the background, I planted daylilies of various varieties, delphiniums and astilba with various colors of inflorescences. In front of them, she placed a skewer, garden geranium, dicentra, kupena, anemones and lilies of the valley on one site. In the foreground, the first violin is played by violets, anemones and several species of dwarf host.
Thus, on this site there are both flowering and decorative deciduous plants. In the second group I decided to plant summer flowering plants with large flowers and inflorescences. Irises and lilies delight the eye in front of the astilbes, while saxifrage and herbal carnations are located along the curb.
Primrose
The third group became the most difficult in the selection of the assortment, since it is located at the entrance to the site. Therefore, most attention was paid to her. At the corner, I planted a panicle hydrangea bush as a dominant. It should be noted that I limit the size of the bush in order not to disturb the composition.
Nearby I placed a park rose with yellow flowers and planted several Ostrovsky onion bulbs right under it. I planted a heather-like one nearby, and its small green ball harmonizes well with a rose. In the foreground, she placed St. John's wort with huge yellow flowers, geykhera, bells and daisies.
Of the annual crops, this year I have used lobelia, ageratum, balsams, coleus and tagetes.
In the future, I plan to supplement my flower garden with variegated budra and ayuga, various types of primroses, cuffs, add species tulips and curb daffodils, and plant several groups of crocuses.
