Continuing the conversation about ways of landscaping a personal plot, consider the creation of a flower bed. Rabatka is a floricultural term for planting flowers in flower beds of a strict geometric, rectangular shape.

Translated from German, "rabatka" means a garden bed. What are its functions and purpose? The ridges are one-sided, that is, they provide a view only from one side, they are usually located along the wall of the house, along the fence, etc., or double-sided ridges for review, respectively, from two sides, for example, located between two paths.

Classic discount- This is a flat rectangle, raised above the soil level by 5-15 cm, designed to be filled, most often, with annual or biennial flowers in the form of a one-color canvas or two-three-color ornament. Rabatka is a mobile flower garden, most often immediately "ready to use", i.e. it is laid by seedlings either ready to bloom, or already blooming. Ceremonial flower beds can change their "face" up to three times a summer, when a grower replaces plants that have completed their growing season with new flowers of a different kind, which open their buds at this time or are more resistant to heat or cold. In the same way, the color scheme of the rabatka changes. A similar effect can be achieved by simultaneously planting seedlings and sowing seeds of fast-growing summer plants, and at the end of summer, the first seedling is replaced by another. Changing color ratiosyou can achieve a completely new perception.

A simple example: at the same time, seedlings of calendula and seeds of white gypsophila are planted, and in early August, calendula is replaced with seedlings of purple asters. The sizes of the ridges can be very different, the main thing is to achieve the effect of a narrow rectangle, so the ratio of width and length cannot be less than one to four. The standard width is 40-60 cm (in large garden and park ensembles there can be ridges up to one and a half meters wide), and the length is arbitrary. Plants are planted strictly under the cord, in parallel stripes, so as not to break the symmetry of the lines. The classic symmetrical bed provides for the use of plants of the same height. But there is also an asymmetrical bed, in the device of which flowers of different heights and the same or different colors are used. If the bed is one-sided, then the tallest plants are planted in the background,and the lowest are on the front; in two-sided view, the highest are planted in the center, and the lowest at the edges to maintain line of sight.

Single-color, narrow and symmetrical ridges look like a bright ribbon. When arranging them, it is important to take into account the location, for such a bed the background on which it stands is very important: a wall, a fence, paved paths, etc. Taking into account the color contrast or, conversely, the transition colors of the spectrum, you can achieve a unique effect. For example, we break a rabat along a blue fence or wall of a house. With a contrasting color scheme, fill it with orange colors, and with a transitional one - with blue or purple. Agree that the perception will be completely different. If the background is neutral: white, gray or black, then in this case one should proceed from the rule: the dark background is illuminated, and the light background is emphasized. Thus, a narrow rabatka with snow-white phlox or golden asters will look good along the dark gray plastered wall.

Ornamental flower beds are also created on the basis of transitional or contrasting colors. Correctly selected plants for an asymmetrical one-sided bed can be distributed as follows: the tallest are crimson, the middle are red, the lowest are pink.

Transitional colors look especially interesting in plants of the same species. For example, in a double-sided rabatka, the central high line is from an orange snapdragon, and the extreme low ones are from a yellow snapdragon of another variety. Very interesting ornaments can be created using asters or marigolds. To create a bed of different types of plants, it is necessary to take into account their requirements for illumination, moisture and soil nutrition.

Some annuals on humus-rich soil excessively increase the vegetative mass and hardly bloom, others, on the contrary, need several additional fertilizing per season. Shade-loving plants fade in the sun, and light-loving plants turn pale and stretch in the shade. It is necessary to provide for the requirements of flowers for growing conditions and choose the most suitable combinations (see table).

There are flowers that do not tolerate high humidity at all, the most famous of which are gypsophila, petunia and sedum. For areas with heavy and damp soil, it is possible to recommend the creation of a pyramid rabatka, the basis of which is in a stepped relief. A step is made in the center of the rabatka (if it is two-sided) or along the far edge (when creating a one-sided rabatka) about a third or a quarter of its width with the help of boards made of boards 15-20 cm high. The space between the bumpers is filled with earth, in which flower seedlings are planted. Theoretically, such a bed can be made in three stages, this helps to save space for planting plants and create flower beds even on damp soils. Such a raised rabatka can be filled with petunia seedlings, using ordinary varieties on the lower tier,and on the upper ampelous - you get a real fragrant waterfall.
