Video: How To Create A Vitamin Green Bed In The Country. Rucola

Vitamin bed from spring to autumn provides summer residents with "green" vitamins

You are already at the dacha, in your country residence. And of course, in nature, first of all, you want to nip something green … and the beds are not very encouraging: apart from traditional onions and radishes, there is little to eat.
And all from our laziness and inertia: today the market offers a lot of options for seeds of green and other crops for the beginning of summer - and then until autumn.
In particular, in the season of white nights, you can still grow radishes, only certain varieties must be sown: Riesenbutter, Duro, Askania, Dungansky 12/8, Parat and others. Especially here stands out the Dutch variety Sora, appreciated primarily by professionals. With regular watering, you will get a fresh radish from your garden in 18-24 days.
But most of the readers, of course, have not even heard of leaf radish (10-day variety), leaf turnip (Sapphire variety). These varieties are grown in the same way as any early ripening greens.

The varieties and agricultural techniques of collard greens have already been discussed in the magazine (see the article "Varieties of Peking and Chinese Cabbage"). All summer you can get a harvest of Chinese and Japanese cabbage, in the second half of summer - Chinese cabbage.
Every two weeks you can and should sow watercress - varieties Azhur, Spring, Dansky, Dukat. In 2004 the POISK firm introduced a new variety to the State Register - Zabava.
In several terms, we sow mustard - varieties Volnushka, Ladushka, Prelestnaya, Prima and a completely new variety introduced to the State Register in 2004 by the agricultural firm Poisk - Yadrenaya.
Do not forget also that there are five types of salads. For example, from the group of lettuce-spinach plants, field salad (valerian), watercress, garden quinoa, garden purslane, endive, escariol, amaranth, witloof, oil radish (salad), chrysanthemum topped (vegetable), burdock and others are available today.
And then there are traditional cultures: dill, parsley, basil, coriander (cilantro), borago (cucumber herb) and others.

Rucola

Now about the new product. Indau (Eruca sativa Lam.), Or rucola, walker, arugula, rocket salad is an annual or biennial plant of the cabbage family (cruciferous). In fact, it is a weed that is found in the wild from Europe to the Far East. Moreover, it gravitates towards settlements, i.e. to the person. In central Russia, there is a medicinal walker, a Lesel walker, a tall walker and others.
Breeders have worked on this crop and created varieties of arugula or indau.
Indau (rucola, walker) has been used since the time of Ancient Rome as a tonic, medicinal plant. Nowadays, it is widely cultivated in Europe as a green culture. In Russia, its seeds became available only a few years ago. There are registered varieties. So, the "State Register 2005" already lists the Emerald variety. In 2005, the Gavrish agro-firm and the NP "Research Institute of Protected Ground Vegetable Growing" introduced a new variety Poker, the Semko agro-firm distributes the Rococo variety. A number of other companies distribute this culture under the name Indau, Rocket, Rocket Salad.
Unfortunately, our gardeners do not yet know how to use arugula greens. In fact, everything is simple: young leaves are used for food for sandwiches, for preparing salads in a mixture with other leafy vegetables. They are stewed with spinach for side dishes.
When crops thicken, humidity drops, in hot weather the leaves are too bitter, so it is advisable to put them in boiling water for 1-3 minutes.
Arugula is added to creamy sauces for Italian pasta dishes.
Growing arugula is easy. It is sown as an independent crop, or as a compactor immediately after the snow melts, and then every 10-15 days. This culture is cold-resistant and grows well at a temperature of 16-18 ° C, shade-tolerant, requires regular watering. In hot weather or with sudden changes in temperature and humidity, with a long day, it shoots rather quickly, the leaves become coarse and become too bitter. Since July, these problems have gradually disappeared.
Rucola prefers light, fertile, slightly acidic soils (pH 6.5-6.8).
Arugula is sown in its original place or after related crops no earlier than 3-4 years later. Good predecessors for her are early potatoes, root vegetables, onions, tomatoes, cucumbers. But most often it is sown on a separate "green" bed with lettuce, watercress, mustard and other salads and spinach plants.
Arugula is sown in the same way as other salad plants. Crops are thinned out in the phase of 1-2 true leaves, leaving them in a row every 5-6 cm, and then in the phase of 3-4 leaves leaving the plants at a distance of 10-15 cm. Care consists in loosening, fertilizing, weeding, regular watering. Arugula is harvested with rosettes 2-3 weeks after sowing.
Good appetite!
