Several years ago, in connection with the expansion of the activities of the St. Petersburg Center Brahma Kumaris, after a series of approvals, permission was obtained to add a second wing to the main building.
Naturally, this could not but affect the arrangement of the garden on Poklonnaya Hill, in the middle of which the house is located. Our garden by that time was formed and delighted with beauty and comfort. I want to tell you about the difficult process of moving already mature plants to another place, maybe our experience will be useful to someone.

We began to prepare for the transplantation of especially valuable trees and shrubs well in advance. And the task was not easy: it was necessary to remove more than a hundred trees and bushes from the territory of the future construction site. I had to decide which plants to give, because there was no room for them, and which ones to transplant to a suitable place, at least for a while.
To preserve the life of the plants we have grown, we have given, as they say, "into good hands" more than 80 trees and shrubs: chestnuts, lindens, Persian lilacs, cherries, apple trees, maples, willows, Japanese quince …
After numerous discussions, we decided that we will definitely leave twelve-year-old fir trees in our garden. They had a difficult story of their own. They grew up in Karelia, it was an alley planted at one time by monks. And in recent years, the threat of destruction has hung over them in connection with the approaching development. A specialist connected with this suggested that we take them and thus save them, and we accepted this gift. Now it was time again to take care of them and all the other plants, because they too deserved mercy.

We drew up an accurate plan for moving trees and bushes, and then turned to the firm "Russian Forest" for help, signed an agreement with it. On April 17, 2010, the plan was finally agreed with the firm and work began.
It was necessary to have time to finish everything before the start of sap flow in the trees. The transplant plan was approved by the director of the Didi Santosh Center and was strictly followed. Fir, linden, viburnum bulldonezh, lilac, Japanese quince and fruiting varietal pear were transplanted. This pear became a separate headache for us, because it was already at an advanced age. So we had to show special love and care for her, and, to our great joy, she survived!
Transplanting mature trees required the use of special technology and special equipment and the participation of high-class specialists, because, for example, the growth of one of the lindens was more than 4 meters. There is not enough just technology and knowledge, but even greater love for your work is needed. This is a complex process.
First, the tree was dug by hand, then it was tilted, and the roots were wrapped in burlap. Then they were wrapped with wire and with a special crane it was transferred to a new place in the garden or loaded into a car for moving. At the same time, a new hole of the corresponding diameter was prepared for each tree. All this time, specialists have been monitoring the state of the garden and helping with advice.
We then used this experience for additional transplants, the need for which arose during the construction process. For example, already in the spring of 2011 we took a chance to transplant varietal lilacs. I would like to note one more important point. All transplanted plants must be watered abundantly in a timely manner. This is even more important than feeding, which, of course, is also needed.
Any business can be approached in different ways. Before our eyes, we had an experience of construction at the headquarters of Brahma Kumaris in Mount Abu (India). There, high in the mountains, a student town was built, preserving all the surrounding nature, to the point that some age-old trees remained inside the buildings, although it would be much easier to demolish them all.
These are amazing, inspirational paintings. After the completion of construction, we have to create a new design of our beloved garden, search for its new face. The idea of a cozy patio has already appeared. In the summer, we hope to invite the entire city to the grand opening of the new house and garden. We are waiting for everyone at the holiday!

Garden And Garden Work In October
In the first ten days of the month, gardeners finish harvesting root crops. You need to dig up the celery and radish with a shovel or pitchfork. Their tops must be cut off at the neck level. Small roots of celery and parsley can be left in the winter. At the same time, late-ripening white cabbage and Brussels sprouts are harvested. This cabbage can be dug in the basement to extend its consumption

How To Deal With Weeds In The Garden And Vegetable Garden
One of the main reasons leading to a sharp decrease in soil fertility, and hence a significant decrease in the productivity of cultivated vegetables and other crops, is weed field vegetation. The regulation of the living conditions of agricultural plants by humans should be aimed at preserving the cleanliness of the fields, for it is impossible to give a single example when high yields of fruits would be obtained on weedy fields

The Main Things In The Garden, In The Flower Garden And In The Garden In August
Cold weather in spring and early June retarded the growth and development of all plants in the garden. In such weather, when the soil temperature drops to 12 degrees Celsius, the root system of plants does not work and, in order to maintain the growth point, they begin to take nutrients from the leaves, so the foliage turns yellow and falls off prematurely
