How do I grow peppers

Gone are the New Year holidays with colorful Christmas tree lights, festive glowing garlands, and noisy companies in the streets and squares. The tale is over, everyday life begins. And for us, gardeners, the time has come to lay the first foundation of the future harvest, the time for the first sowing - pepper seeds for seedlings.

There are many opinions on this matter. Some say that there is no need to rush to plant any seedlings, while the daylight hours are still very short. Others argue that artificial lighting will help out. I just recommend that beginner gardeners follow my example and sow sweet pepper seeds for seedlings on January 10 or a little later.

Someone will think that it is still very early! What if the pepper stretches out from lack of light? But peppers are not tomatoes! He's not so capricious in nature. In peppers, after all, the stems are stronger, they do not break, do not fall in all directions. But the peppers really need lighting. And if you have the opportunity to light up the seedlings for at least 8 hours a day, then this method is for you! I assure you you will not regret it!

My pepper harvest has always been good before, but in recent years it has become earlier and has doubled. I believe that the reason for this success lies precisely in the early sowing of seeds for seedlings.

On January 10, I put the seeds in plastic sour cream cups (the larger their volume, the stronger your seedlings will be!). I plant one seed in each glass filled with earth. I water it well, and then I put the cups in a cardboard box, on the bottom of which I first put a pallet, after which I close the box with its own sides, and wrap it up with a blanket or casing from above and from the sides.

There is my box of crops on a stool by the battery. I water the crops once every 3-4 days. In such conditions, the first shoots begin to appear very early - on January 18th. But my pets do not hatch at the same time. Therefore, I wait until each glass is embellished with a small white "loop" (shoots), only then I will put my entire "kindergarten" out of the box on the windowsill.

I preliminarily insulate the window glass with newspapers, and immediately cover the "cubs" with a double layer of lutrasil and place a fluorescent lamp low above them (at a height of 15-20 cm).

When the seedlings begin to grow, then the lamp should rise to the appropriate height, but the lower it is placed above the tops of the peppers, the more comfortable they will be.

Once every two weeks I feed the seedlings with "Ideal" and "Kemira" alternately.

I plant my "stalwarts" in a greenhouse on May 10th. By this time, not only white modest flowers, but also thick-walled "teenagers" -fruits flaunt on the bushes. I noticed that if a clod of earth is not destroyed when transplanting seedlings into a greenhouse, then the peppers give the first harvest by June 10.

Our greenhouse is the most common, without heating, therefore, from May 20 to June 8, pepper seedlings have to be covered with a double layer of lutrasil at night, because frosts at the beginning of summer are the main enemy of all our labors and efforts. That's my whole secret.

If the greenhouse was heated, then the crop of peppers could be removed with buckets, even in our capricious climate.

Finally, I will tell you about the varieties. I tested many different varieties in my greenhouse, but in the end I gave preference to three varieties: Swallow, Tenderness and Mirage. Now I am friends only with these varieties, and I don't plant peppers hybrids. I have my own complaints about them, but this is a matter of taste. By the way, I believe that only varieties give the real aroma and taste of sweet peppers.

Good luck, dear summer residents! Good harvests in the coming year!
