I came, I saw, I repeated
The past season for me and my family was not very successful in terms of the arrangement of the site. Although at the beginning there were big plans for the reconstruction of the alpine slides. But we arrived at the dacha late, plants were already actively blooming on them, and therefore we decided to postpone the work on the hills until autumn.
But, as they say, there would be no happiness, but misfortune helped. Suddenly it turned out that a small area in front of the hill requires a thorough reconstruction. On it, we created a small reservoir, where the neighbors, like last year, launched fish. These fish, to everyone's surprise, still live there, despite the small size of the artificial pond and the constant attempts of neighboring cats to catch them.
Hostas were planted along the edges of the pond, periwinkle in a small clearing in front of the reservoir, and Kuril tea in the corner in front of the path. A decorative wall was placed in the corner farthest from the path, next to which nasturtium and monarda were planted in special containers. Nasturtium not only pleases the eye with its bright flowers, but is also used by us to prepare salads (leaves) and marinades (seeds).
In recent years, we have quite often planted various plants and flowers in pots or boxes, which allows us to create interesting combinations of flower arrangements. In addition, in case of unfavorable weather conditions, which are not uncommon in our country, you can take flowers from the street to the house, to the veranda or to the barn.
An equally important matter was the creation of lighting for the path along the flower garden and arches with clematis. Unfortunately, no matter how hard we tried to photograph the illuminated flowers in the evening and at night, we did not get high-quality images, so readers will not be able to see the beauty of the night garden.
But that summer, clematis and lilies delighted us with their beauty, we photographed them with pleasure, and they turned out well in the photo, but still not better than in nature.
Of course, we didn't do much on the way to the ideal garden, but we experimented a lot with plantings. And someday we will achieve what we want.
Now I want to talk about how a landscape design competition announced by the magazine is pushing people to create beautiful corners in the garden. It's not about our design work, but about my relative M. M. Fedorov. This is a young man doing hard work. Until recently, he was far from creating flower arrangements. We rarely see each other, mainly in the summer, at the plots, discussing mainly the types of crops. In one of our meetings, Mikhail Mikhailovich really liked the arches for clematis that I made. He examined them for a long time, even measured them.
I thought that this would be all. But, having come to visit him this summer, we were amazed. The wall of a large cellar, which rises three meters on a site, was surrounded by huge granite boulders. He brought these boulders from near Vyborg, where he traveled for work. The result is a decorative wall, on which ground cover plants and flowers were planted. The old cellar immediately began to look new. A small reservoir was arranged in front of the wall, and a decorative arch was placed there.
Everything turned out just like in the idea of our competition: I kindly envied it - and did it myself even better. Unfortunately, I do not have photos of what he did, but it’s not even about them and not about the competition, although, of course, it is important too. The fact is that thanks to the magazine, we kind of united into a kind of gardening brotherhood, in which you can learn a lot of useful things for yourself, and share your design findings, successes and failures. And my relative's example shows how the design business, supported by Flora Price magazine, changes a person, makes him more versatile, reveals hidden opportunities and talents.
