The game of a spinner depends on its thickness, shape, bend shape, rigging method and speed of retrieving. The thickness of the spoon is decisive. About the degree of its mobility: the thinner the spoon, the more mobile it is, and vice versa. Thick spoons play well in a fast flow or with fast retrieving; thin - play well enough in any body of water, even with slow wiring.

To assess the catchability of oscillating spoons, the frequency of their oscillations is of particular importance; for rotating ones - rotation speed. Short and wide spoons wobble or spin at a higher vibration frequency than long and narrow ones. Fish are good at distinguishing the frequency of oscillations, preferring one spoon to another.

Spoonslarge and medium sizes, depending on the type and method of wiring, resemble either a calmly swimming fish (oscillating spoons), or a sick fish (asymmetrical), or rapidly leaving a predator - these are ordinary spoons with fast posting, or spoons with high drag (see. fig. 5), the movement of which resembles a fish rushing from side to side.

Small spinning spoons rather resemble fluttering insects.

In addition, A. Laputin, the author of numerous publications about spoons, writes: “Each of the spoons, depending on the water body and fishing conditions, is designed for one or another fish. For example, with a spoon, depicting a calmly swimming fish, they successfully catch pike and pike perch from the bottom, standing among the grass, in deep snaggy places or among stones; a chub is caught on a sick fish on a stream, under dams and on rapids; on the fish fleeing from the predator, they catch asp and other fish in the upper layers of the water in the summer; on small rotating and oscillating spoons they catch fish that feed on insects or fry (asp, chub, grayling, perch, nelmu and other fish).

I must say that this statement, in my opinion, is controversial. Swimming in a mask and fins in different reservoirs, I have repeatedly observed the hunting of predatory fish. The most common pike. Hidden in ambush, the predator grabbed (or tried to grab) everything that swam past her in her hunting area. Often even indiscriminately.

Inedibles were immediately thrown out of the mouth. That is, in no case did she miss potential prey (of course, when she was hunting); and was never guided, for example, by such a "consideration": they say, this fish is not intended for me, but for pike perch or perch. Therefore, I do not touch her.

Every spinning player has a natural question: what color is better? To find out, I interviewed several dozen anglers, and I got an interesting picture … Each spinning player, having caught from one to several fish with the same spoon, assured that the color of just such a spoon gives a good result when catching predators.

For example, I, they say, caught a pike for five kilos with such and such a lure, another - I pulled out fanged (zander), the third - I fished a kilogram humpback (perch). And so on ad infinitum.

Based on the survey, it was possible to identify only two more or less general conclusions. First: in fine sunny weather, as well as in clear water, dark tones are preferable, on cloudy days and in opaque water, light spoons are more efficient. The second conclusion: with a bad bite, the spoon should be as small as possible, with a good bite, it can be large.

Figure 6 In the unforgettable Soviet times, due to the constant shortage of spoons, fishermen, for the most part, made them themselves. Now there is no such need. Although some craftsmen still make spinners. For example, in the book "The Fisherman's Workshop", L. Erlykin talks about how to make a wide variety of spoons. And about one of his homemade products, he writes: "The spinning spoon, called by the author" Perch facet "(see Fig. 6), plays well, and the author considers it one of the best. That's it!

I will not dispute the statement of the author of this spinner, I can only add: if you want to make homemade spinners, go for it. What if it turns out sensible. In a word, the hope is exclusively for the notorious Russian: "Avos".

Since quite often predators (pike, pike perch, perch, burbot, eel) hide in ambush: in snags, among trees that have fallen into the water, among stones and in grass thickets, you have to throw spoons in these places. And this, of course, inevitably leads to hooks. Therefore, the spinner must know the basic rules for freeing the lure from the hooks.

Having felt that the lure is caught, one must imagine where the sting of the hook (s) was directed, and try, if possible, to pull the line in the opposite direction. If the lure does not detach, it is useful to jerk the rod in different directions, making sure that at the moment of the jerk the angle between the line and the rod is less than a straight line, otherwise you can break the rod. If in this case the lure does not unhook, then you should try to pull the line with your hands in different directions, and when all that remains is to break it, it is better to pull it downstream.

When fishing from a boat or from protruding sections of the shore, if the bait is caught downstream, sometimes it is possible to unhook it by releasing several dozen turns of fishing line from the reel and then sharply jerking with the rod. In this case, the uncoupling force will be directed downstream.

And, perhaps, the last. No matter how strange it may seem for a not too experienced angler, you still need to take care of the spinners. Here's what to do:

  1. After each fishing trip, the spoons must be cleaned and dried.
  2. Then carefully inspect: whether the rings are in good order, whether the hooks are not blunt. If necessary, replace unsuitable hooks and rings.
  3. Correct or refresh the color of the spoon.
  4. Each lure that is in good condition must be placed in a separate compartment in the fishing tackle box.

Fishing with a spoon is an exciting and rewarding activity. And in order to achieve success, one must always remember the eastern wisdom: "In order to catch a fish, you need only two things: time and patience." This aphorism is directly related to trolling.
