A hedge in the garden is real

You may well fulfill your dream. And there are a lot of plants for creating a hedge in the Russian climate. In the southern regions there are more of them, and in others, more northern ones, there is less, but there is a choice. You just need to first decide what exactly you want. The fact is that landscape design specialists distinguish three types of living fences, based on their height. Each of them has its own plants.

The first type - up to one meter high - is most often not fences, but curbs that limit paths, flower beds or lawns.

The second type - from a meter to two - for dividing a garden plot into functional zones, for example, a recreation area, a household, a vegetable garden, etc.

The third type of fence - two or more meters high - to separate the site from the outside world, for example, from a nearby road.

A low, dense hedge can be created with the help of spirits, brilliant cotoneaster or other species of this plant, as well as various types of barberry, caragana (yellow acacia). These plants can also be cut both in height and width, creating low, beautiful, even green walls. Park roses are also suitable for this. They form a flowering hedge.

You can also create a low living fence from annual plants, such as kochia. Densely planted, these plants create a dense green wall, which can also be cut to the desired shape and size. It has a plus: if trees and shrubs need to be grown for several years to get a beautiful green fence, then kochia will give you the beauty you need in the first year.

A higher hedge can be obtained by planting rose hips (which also bloom beautifully, and then are also decorated with bright fruits), various types of hawthorn, barberry, spherical or weeping willow, juniper, caragana, thuja, undersized types of spruce.

The green hedges separating the dacha from the outside world are taller. This means that the plants must be selected higher. It can be coniferous crops, for example, common or silver ate, various types of pines, junipers, as well as deciduous ones - linden, weeping birch, lilacs - such a hedge is very beautiful in spring, when the bushes are decorated with juicy multi-colored inflorescences; willows, hawthorns, viburnum, including ornamental. And if you put girlish grapes on the support, you get a thick bright green wall, which will turn crimson by autumn.

In my opinion, one more plant is very promising for this purpose - edible honeysuckle. By planting several varieties of this useful plant, you will eventually get tall, impenetrable green thickets. And in late June - early July you will be able to harvest the first summer berries, delicious and vitamin-rich, from a live fence.
