Flower ballad

For almost two and a half months - from July 1 to September 10 - Muscovites and guests of the capital were delighted by more than fifty flower beds, located on the territory of the Kuzminki estate on both sides along Lipovaya Alley, in the parterre of the manor house and near the horse yard.

They were created within the framework of the 12th district festival of flower beds and landscape architecture, the topic of which is included in the title of the article and is timed to coincide with the bicentennial of Russia's victory in the Patriotic War of 1812.

Despite the limitations of a given theme and the traditional set of ornamental plants and materials for city flower beds (marigolds, petunias, cineraria, tuberous and always blooming begonia, balsams, coleus, ageratum, celosia, lobelia, brilliant salvia, cochia, marble chips, multicolored wood chips), the works of the festival participants turned out to be very diverse due to the modern variety of varieties of the mentioned plants, their variable combination, the use of specially invented and made for the event volumetric forms (coats of arms, standards, flags, orders, cannons, cannonballs, drums, obelisks, flat layouts of the triumphal arches and soldiers of that time, the Kremlin wall with towers, etc.) and, of course, the imaginations of the authors. For example, in working with the playful question, familiar from childhood, "What was the elephant doing when Napoleon came?"the elephant was giving Napoleon a scarlet rose.

The titles of the works corresponded to the theme of the festival: laconic "Dawn over Borodino", "With Love for the Fatherland", "People's Militia", "Triumph of the Commander", "The Fall of the Emperor", "Valor and Glory", "Waltz of Victory", "March of Flowers", "War and Peace", poetic "The trumpet calls the soldiers to the march to the sound of drums," "It is not for nothing that all of Russia remembers about Borodin's day", "And Moscow, like a phoenix, was reborn from its ashes", "War Hero of the twelfth year … and two hundred for years you are still in the memory of the people”and many others.

In the numerous list of commemorative events dedicated to the battle events of two centuries ago, tribute to the Russian soldiers at the festival was paid to the most peaceful living creatures - flowers.
