Autumn daisies delight with their flowering at the end of the season

Do you love daisies the way I love them? I think that the majority of Russians will answer this question in the affirmative. Although, if we recall the cinema classics, then in the twentieth century, not only Russians, but also the French were fascinated with "daisies" - subtle connoisseurs of everything beautiful.

Novice gardeners call all plants "chamomiles" whose flower shape resembles the shape of a garden chamomile (nivyanik). It can be such plants as: chamomile pharmacy - grows everywhere as a weed, mesembriantemum or crystal chamomile, varieties of rudbecky, coreopsis and others.

Today I want to introduce you to the autumn "daisies". These are varieties of heleniums and chrysanthemums.

Many of you know well the geleniums that decorate our gardens in autumn. These are bright compositions based on yellow, orange and red geleniums. These types of heleniums begin to bloom in the summer and end, depending on weather conditions, in September-October. The height of these plants is 1-1.5 meters. Flower diameter 3-4 centimeters. You can use them as a cut crop and make autumn bouquets.

You can grow these types of heleniums by planting delots or sowing seeds. Many gardeners complain that it is difficult to grow helenium with seeds - seeds do not germinate well. This is not entirely true. The seeds of all perennial plants must undergo a stratification stage. To do this, put the seed bags in the refrigerator for 1-2 weeks, and then sow the seeds on seedlings or outdoors.

And now I want to tell the readers about another type of "chamomile" in autumn, which blooms in September and blooms almost until the snow falls, at a time when almost all other plants have faded. This same miracle of nature is just beginning to delight us with its flowering. And it is called - autumn or late chrysanthemum, and scientifically - late levcantemella.

Why is it unusual and why should you pay attention to this plant? Everything is very simple. Late autumn is the time when the foliage on the trees begins to fall and the garden becomes dull and unsightly. Plant this type of chrysanthemum, and it will not only prolong your enjoyment of autumn, but on rare sunny days it will seem that summer is coming back to you again.

If you plant a sufficient number of these plants, and helenium multiplies quickly and easily, you can use the favorite technique of landscape designers and hide behind it everything that should be closed from the prying eyes, which spoils the view of the site. It could be an old building, a pile of rubbish that you didn't manage to clean up, a compost pile if you don't like it, and much, much more. However, in my opinion, the most important thing is that you can hide from your neighbors, which, perhaps, will please many gardeners.

You ask: how to do it? It couldn't be easier. I did not tell what kind of plant it is. First, it is very high. Its height can reach 2.5-3 meters. It is very easy to regulate the growth of this chrysanthemum. If you want it to be tall and powerful, plant it in fertile soil and periodically water and feed. If you want it to be no higher than 1-1.5 meters, plant it in poor sandy soil.

So in the design of the site, levcantemella is simply irreplaceable. Its stem structure is the same as that of all bush chrysanthemums. But the flowers are very similar to garden daisies - dazzling white with a yellow-green center and very large - up to 10-12 centimeters. In addition, the plant branches in the upper part and, cutting off the top, you will get a bouquet of 7-12 flowers. Imagine how your friends will look at you when at the end of October you come to visit them with an armful of white, large "daisies". By the way, they stand perfectly in a vase!

Are you not interested in Late Leucantemella yet? Then it's time to talk about how it can be propagated. And again, everything is very simple. Having planted one rhizome in spring, you will get a clump of 10-15 plants in autumn. If you already have it, then, having arrived at the site in spring, cut the plant at the root and stick it into the ground. It will take root perfectly.

But what about those who liked the plant, but it blooms too late, and not all gardeners have time to admire it, since the summer in the North-West, in the zone of risky farming, is very short, and such a chrysanthemum simply does not have time to bloom? There is a little secret here - grow under a black film, laying it on the ground and covering the entire root system. Then flowering will begin earlier.
