Video: Growing Superlarge Strawberries
2024 Author: Sebastian Paterson | [email protected]. Last modified: 2023-12-16 13:47
On the left there are 2-year-old bushes, on the right - 4-year old. The difference in size is very significant! Height and size of 4-year-old bushes on a part of the plantation The root system of the seedlings reaches a length of 80 cm! Flowering seedlings of the 1st year The wheel is a hoe Strawberry seedlings planted in autumn 2015 Berries of the 1st year Berry, in my mouth, 170 g, 10 x 12 cm!
Agrotechnology for growing superlarge-fruited strawberries
In the fourth year after planting, the bushes grow above the knee, on some bushes there are more than 100 berries! The root system is more than 1 meter deep and more than 1 meter wide. The root system of the mustache is 80 cm long! Flower stalks as thick as a cigarette, sheets from the palm of your hand, one person will not embrace a bush. The weight of individual berries reaches 110, 120,… 150 grams!
I also like this variety because part of the peduncles inside the bush hangs on powerful leaf stems when the berries ripen and does not touch the ground.
The secret of success
As far as I understand, the harvest depends on the variety, the labor input and the technology compliance. I'll tell you about it.
I started first of all with preparing the ground. I prepared it in advance. The whole garden was dug by hand with trenches 1 m wide and 1 m deep. I dug trenches across the garden. Between the trenches, he left plots with a width of 70 cm, on which he stored the excavated earth. On one side of each trench (from the end), I made a gentle descent so that it was possible to drive in and out with a cart. I laid corn at the bottom of the trench about 10 cm.
Then he brought in a cart of cow dung, a cart for horse, etc. I covered the top of the trench with a humus layer of 20 - 30 cm. Then I covered the trenches with 10 - 15 cm of earth (level with the surface of the site). I did this whole procedure in the fall. In the spring I plowed along the garden 5 times with a tractor and mixed the soil with humus very well. The whole garden was sown with peas.
After harvesting the peas, he plowed the land several more times. By the next fall (a year later) the garden was ready to "receive" strawberries. This method of preparing the land was suggested to me by scientists. True, it is very laborious and long-term, but the site will be well fertilized for several years.
The seedlings were planted as follows: he made the markings under a cord, dug a hole with a bayonet shovel, poured a scoop of humus into the hole, which he mixed with the ground to the bottom of the hole, poured 1 tbsp. spoon of reed ash. I planted seedlings in such a way that the central rod was at ground level. On top of the bush he poured another spoonful of reed ash, after which he irrigated by sprinkling to the entire depth of the root. Within about 7 - 10 days, the bush takes root well. During this period, watering is necessary after 1 - 2 days and soil loosening.
Care
I plant garlic around the perimeter to repel pests. I mulch the row spacing by 10 cm with coarse river sand. It prevents the earth from cracking, retains and absorbs moisture better, and allows the root system to develop intensively.
This variety must be watered with sprinkling to the full depth of the root after 1 - 2 days before the first berry ripens. In order for the berry to ripen well, to be fragrant and transportable, at the end of May "as soon as the first of them begins to blush" I abruptly stop such intensive watering and water it about 1 time in 10 days for the entire ripening period of the berry (depending on the rain, humidity and air temperature). After watering, be sure to loosen the ground
"Kindergarten" for strawberries
I make a nursery separately. I plant seedlings 2 m by 2 m on it. Such a long distance makes it possible, with good care for them, to get seedlings of 1/200 or more. The mustache grows up to 7 cm per day! The greatest number of whiskers is given by 2 - 3-year bushes.
I form the beds strictly from north to south, then the berry physiologically and biologically ripens completely. The distance between the rows is 100 cm, in a row - 50 cm. In the fourth year, the bushes grow strongly and the beds become almost continuous.
If the seedlings are planted in the fall, then in June of the next year it yields a crop from one peduncle. Then, in July, the bush reproduces independently by dividing its upper section into 2 - 3 parts, while the root system remains common. In the 2nd year, the harvest is 2-3 times more than in the first year. This division of the bushes takes place annually. Separate bushes of the 4th year give up to 17 peduncles. Thus, in 4 years they have 17 times more crop per bush than in the first year!
In the spring, before and during flowering, I feed mullein (1/10) chicken droppings (1/20) and pigeon droppings (1/20).
I trim the whiskers with a bayonet sharpened from all sides as follows: I put the shovel on the edge and, slightly pressing, push it in front of me along the row. She, sliding along the ground, like a razor, easily cuts off the mustache without touching the root system. Thanks to this technique, the pruning time is significantly reduced.
I weed the aisles with a wheel - a hoe at the speed of a pedestrian !!!
Top dressing
I prepare liquid dressings as follows: I insist each (species) separately in 200 - liter barrels in the sun for 7 days, thoroughly mixing the contents 3 - 5 times a day. I pour out 1 liter of each top dressing under the bush. I feed with mullein, chicken and pigeon droppings in the same doses after harvest, in July - August.
I don’t use chemical fertilizers in principle! Mineral dressing - 1 tbsp. spoonful of reed ash dry (preferably on top of the bush) 5 times: when the ground melts, before flowering, at the time of flowering, after harvest and in September. I collect ashes in winter.
For the prevention of diseases, at least 1 time a month I spray the strawberry bushes with infusion of garlic with reed ash (I insist a glass of garlic gruel in a bucket of water for a day, filter it before spraying).
I grow an ecologically clean berry !!!

Planting And Growing Strawberries
When choosing planting material, you should pay special attention to the diameter of the rosettes ( no more than 1.5 cm ) and the length of the roots ( not less than 5 cm ). The best seedlings are annuals with 3-5 leaves per socket. It is advisable to choose plants without peduncles, if any, they must be removed in order to facilitate the plant's survival. The sooner you plant strawberries, the better they will take root and the faster the mustache will appear
Growing Strawberries In Vertical Culture
In order to maximize the use of the usable area of greenhouses, increase the yield of strawberries and reduce the cost of production, the so-called "vertical culture" has been increasingly used recently. This method is based on growing strawberries in various containers placed in a vertical plane, which allows you to increase the number of plants per unit area
Growing Garden Strawberries (strawberries) On Film
Every year, with the beginning of the next summer cottage season, gardeners look forward to the day when the first fragrant strawberries ripen. But, as you know, to get berries it is necessary to grow strawberry seedlings. You can, of course, buy ready-made planting material, but real gardeners like to do everything themselves, especially if there are favorite varieties that you don't want to part with
Growing And Varieties Of Remontant Large-fruited Strawberries
Varieties of large-fruited remontant strawberries were obtained by selection of clones of non-renovated varieties of pineapple strawberries, which tend to repeat or multiple flowering and fruiting during one growing season. The interest of gardeners in this type of strawberry has now increased, but, unfortunately, in the works of scientists and specialists, little attention is paid to remontant strawberries
Strawberries Or Strawberries?
There are 7 wild strawberry species growing in Russia: wild strawberry, green strawberry ( hilly ) or half moon; oriental strawberry ( Asian forest strawberry ); European strawberries ( nutmeg strawberries ); plain strawberries; Bukhara strawberries, Sakhalin strawberries
