Fishing tales

Probably, having listened to our heated discussions with Alexander Rykov about the past or the upcoming fishing trip, his wife Irina decisively stated that next time she would definitely go with us. In vain did Rykov prove to her that it was the height of winter and that it would be very nice to visit her mother, whom they had not been to for a long time. Or hit the road to the dacha to throw snow from the roof after the past heavy snowfalls.

Alas, no "reasonable" arguments (understandably, in the opinion of her husband) did not work on her: she firmly intended to go fishing with us in the very near future. And for some reason she was going to fish exclusively with a jig. We got out next Saturday.

While Irina was engaged in urgent household matters, getting ready, time was melting, as a result we missed the morning bite. And they arrived at the lake closer to noon. Apparently, the bite was bad, and therefore most of the anglers began to leave the place of fishing.

“A woman on a fishing trip - no luck,” we heard behind us as we passed a guy in an orange jacket. True, I managed to notice that he did not have a single fish. And therefore, in vain he blamed his failure on the woman, that is, on Irina.

Moving slightly away from the bulk of the anglers, Rykov and I drilled several holes, and the fishing began. Anyone who is in the slightest degree familiar with fishing with a jig knows that the basis of successful fishing with this bait is not the "piece of iron" itself, but the correct play with it, capable of attracting fish. On this occasion, in some book about fishing, in the section on jiggers, I found a very eloquent heading: "Movement is everything!"

Rykov gave his wife a tackle, explained and showed how to put bloodworms on the hook and operate the jig. But it's one thing to know, and quite another to be able. I would even say more precisely - desire. Irina clearly found it boring and tedious to learn about playing with a jig, so she settled down on a folding chair, put her face to the sun and began to twitch the jig from time to time.

Of course, she had no bites. And in vain Rykov tried to convince his wife that the game of the jig should be diversified, a certain rhythm of oscillations should be selected. She just brushed it off: “Leave me alone. I rest". Taking an interest in the situation, other fishermen also approached, but Irina answered everyone who gave her advice in monosyllables: "I'm resting!" I will not say that Rykov and I have succeeded very much, but nevertheless we caught a good ear. Irina, of course, had nothing.

We went fishing to this lake two more times, but the result of our companion was the same - zero. Some fishermen, looking at Irina, who was comfortably seated on a chair, laughed openly. However, it is not in vain that folk wisdom says: "He who laughs last laughs well." This is exactly what happened on our third fishing trip.

Irina, "resting", as before, from time to time monotonously pulled the jig. But after a while, the option "as before" changed abruptly: she suddenly started biting. And what a! She took only roach, and it was enough for Irina to make two or three movements with the jig, as the bite followed.

The lucky fisherwoman was immediately surrounded by a crowd of onlookers. They exchanged glances, but no one could understand what was happening: why no one had a single bite, but here they followed one after another. This fish trip lasted no more than half an hour. But during this time, Irina caught about three dozen pretty decent roach.

Discussing this unprecedented case, Rykov and I came to, perhaps, the only reasonable explanation … Apparently, just such a monotonous play with a jig was necessary at that moment to cause an active bite of roach. To put it simply: at the right moment, the right jig game. Hence the result.

This was clearly an isolated case, because Irina was never more successful - not with a jig or a float rod. And involuntarily I recall the words from the popular romance: “Only once in my life there is a meeting …” In our case, with roach!
