Now is the time to take care of getting a juicy green onion, grown by yourself, on your own windowsill
This is how a real gardener is arranged that he cannot sit around the whole winter. Outside the window, there is snow and cold, and the soul simply rushes to its cherished hundred square meters to its favorite beds. And if so, we will give ourselves a favorite thing.
So, we take a shovel or scoop in our hands. And we will arrange a vegetable garden on the windowsill. Fresh greens, straight from the garden, cannot be replaced with frozen ones or bought at the market and in the supermarket. All the same, its own will be more aromatic, and juicier, and more vitamin, and even greener. Of course, one cannot count on a bountiful harvest: a window sill is not a garden bed, and you cannot provide summer sun for plants. But it is quite possible to grow something very useful and vitamin-rich.
The main condition is the presence of a wide window sill on the sunny side of the house or apartment. True, the winter day is too short, so additional illumination with fluorescent lamps for 6-8 hours a day will be quite useful. Thus, you will provide your plantings with 12-16 hours of daylight, just like in summer. Although for the proposed crops, additional lighting is not fundamentally important.

The easiest way to drive out onions is, and it is more beneficial in terms of vitamins: its green feathers contain 3-4 times more vitamin C than bulbs. If you do not want to mess with the ground or peat, you can use washed river sand, fine expanded clay, sawdust, vermiculite or perlite. Growing green feathers do not need feeding: they get all their nutrition from the bulb. Only light, water and moderate temperature (18 … 22 ° С) are needed here.
So, any bulbs will be needed for distillation, but it is advisable to choose varieties with a short dormant period. Any waterproof containers can be used as containers (plastic cake lids, containers from vacuum food packaging, boxes for seedlings, etc.). The tops of the selected bulbs are cut off "shoulder length" and soaked for almost a day in warm water. The existing substrate is poured into the container, close to each other, slightly pressing inward, the bulbs are installed and the plantings are well watered with warm water. This completes the main process, it remains to wait for the harvest. After about 10-15 days, wait for feathers 15-20 cm long.
The container with onions does not have to be immediately placed on the window or somewhere else closer to the light. It is best to place the onions in a warm place to speed up sprouting, such as a cupboard or kitchen cabinet. With the appearance of roots, it is important not to forget to water the plantings with warm water. Young feathers will appear in a few days. Now you can rearrange your "bed" to the brightest place. Feathers grow very quickly in warmth and with sufficient moisture, and after the bulbs have given up everything they could and the harvest is harvested, they are thrown away. Planting 15-20 bulbs at a time with an interval of 3-4 weeks, you can get a fresh green feather all winter.

Forcing parsley can start from December-January, but more intensive growth of greens begins in February. Parsley roots dug up in autumn are planted in containers with fertile soil, leaving the upper part of the root crop above the soil surface. The germination pot is placed in a warm place. Ten days after planting, when the leaves begin to grow, you can start to water the plantings little by little.
All the nutrition of the growing leaves is taken from the root crop, including moisture, so you need to approach watering without much zeal. Excessive watering in this case can lead to leaf rot. As they grow, the greens are cut off for consumption. Celery greens can be distilled in the same way.
For lovers of spicy food, I can recommend trying to grow indoor peppers in the house. In winter, when there is snow and frost outside the window, a green bush of hot pepper with bright red fruits can become a real decoration of the kitchen window. A burning pod will be very useful for aromatic hot cabbage soup.
You can buy such a pepper in a store, or you can grow it from seeds. It should be watered only with warm water, because pepper is a heat-loving culture, and cold tap water can lead to the death of plants. Pepper grows in room conditions quite well and does not require special care.
Winter will be more fun for you in the trouble of these miniature beds, and vitamins in the family diet will be very useful.
