Members Of The "Green Gift" Club Summed Up The Results Of The Past Season

For the fifth time, within the walls of the hospitable House of Culture "Suzdalsky" of the municipal association Shuvalovo-Ozerki, the Harvest Festival was held, which brought together members of the "Green Gift -3" club, which works at this cultural institution, and their guests from other gardening clubs in St. Petersburg, as well as scientists -agrarians. Such meetings have already become a good tradition here - to gather and sum up the spring-summer harvest together with friends and colleagues.

The current summer cottage season is clearly a success. The garden exhibits of the festive exposition, which consisted of vegetables and fruits grown by summer residents, as well as winter preparations from them, conscientiously prepared by the hands of housewives of six acres, spoke eloquently about this. There was so much that was not on the tables intended for the demonstration of the harvest! Despite the fact that it was already the second half of autumn, there were melons and watermelons, huge pumpkins, zucchini of different colors and sizes, peppers, cucumbers and tomatoes, onions of all colors and types, including juicy leek stalks. There were beautiful apples, and weighty branches of sea buckthorn, and late autumn flowers … And also - various jars of pickles and preserves, bottles with homemade wine and liqueurs.

The guests of the holiday, having gathered near the exposition, vividly discussed what they saw: they admired unusual vegetables, wrote down the names of successful varieties, and were interested in recipes for preparations. Then they all gathered at two long rows of tables with treats, tasted homemade wines, liqueurs, various salads and lecho, stocked up for the winter. In this feast there were many very famous Petersburg gardeners, including the authors of our magazine: L. N. Klimtseva, V. N. Kovaleva, L. V. Rybkina, M. Ya. Turkina, L. D. Bobrovskaya, V. And Penkova, L. N. Golubkova, G. V. Lazareva and others, as well as the president of the "Green Gift" club A. A. Komarov, specialists from the VIR them. Vavilova and great friends of gardeners - T. N. Kozhanova, L. V. Ermolaeva.

Then the ensemble of the Cossack song "Kalina" came out to greet the audience on a small stage. The performance of the artists was so touching and perky that many gardeners, not sitting still, started dancing.

The holiday was in full swing, but the jury of the competition, which was not the first time headed by Luiza Nilovna Klimtseva, had enough work at that time - it was necessary to choose the best from the huge number of presented gifts of autumn in order to name the winners and prize-winners of the competition.

And then there was a celebration of those who were noted by the jury. The management of the House of Culture "Suzdalsky" prepared thoroughly for this holiday: there were a lot of prizes that would be useful to gardeners in the new season, they were encouraged not only by the winners, but also by everyone who presented their exhibits.

The Harvest Festival ended with a cheerful and colorful skits prepared by the "Smile" club. This collective, headed by G. V. Fomicheva, celebrates its tenth anniversary. And amateur artists, many of them are also gardeners, did their best: they gave more than one smile and joy to all the guests of the holiday.
