Holiday Of The Harvest Club "Green Gift"

The Russian Gardeners' Union is a relatively young public organization that began with gardening clubs. The Zeleny Dar club is one of the first in St. Petersburg. It now has three branches. "Zeleny Dar - 3" is our club, it works at the "Suzdalsky" cultural center in the municipal association Shuvalovo-Ozerki. A good tradition was born among the members of our club several years ago - at the end of the summer dacha season, to hold a Harvest Festival in the House of Culture.

And this year our gardeners have not deviated from the established tradition. At the end of the month we gathered again for our holiday. We did not sum up our results alone, we were visited by: the president of the Green Gift club A. A. Komarov, the famous gardener and winegrower I. A. Timofeev, who developed his own method of growing this southern crop in the North-West of Russia, L. A. Egorova - an experienced gardener; her summer cottage is well known to many listeners of clubs, she successfully grows there not only traditional crops, but also rare ones, including grapes and actinidia. She came to this meeting of our club members with an interesting composition made up of various plants and decorative pumpkins from her rich harvest. An employee of the VIR, L. V. Eromolaeva, who in the classroom taught our students to deal with garden pests.

We were also visited by the heads of other gardening clubs in the city: S. V. Kurashvili - from the "Usadebka" club, L. N. Golubkova - from the "Louise" club, T. V. Artemyeva - from the "Green Gift - 1" club. They did not come to visit empty-handed, but decorated our exposition with interesting samples of a growing bush of tomatoes with fruits, delicious sweet watermelon and fragrant melon, which were then highly appreciated at the general festive feast. It is worth mentioning the head of our club "Zeleny Dar-3" GV Lazareva. She also presented her exposition, the dominant of which was a huge head of Peking cabbage, which could compete with purchased samples from supermarkets. Her composition also included the rare kohlrabi cabbage, which Galina Vasilievna also successfully grows in her garden.

It should be noted that the exhibition table was very colorful and interesting. There were live peppers and tomatoes growing in pots on it, and various vegetables grown by our gardeners - pumpkins - food and decorative, squash, squash, cucumbers, huge potato tubers, beets, carrots, onions of various varieties and types, and also in colors, beautifully laid and decorated with live chrysanthemums; there was also garlic of various varieties. Apples were on the table - in baskets, in containers, and in bulk. Such an abundance of them is understandable - it was an apple year. An interesting and very tasty exhibit turned out to be pies with onions and jam, which were eaten quickly and with pleasure during the feast. Special mention should be made of the variety of blanks open for tasting by the visitors of the exhibition. It might take a long time to list themthe most interesting were live oatmeal jelly, medicinal composition of cranberries with nuts and raisins, juices from rhubarb, Japanese quince and apples, all kinds of salads, jams, live mix of berries.

Traditionally, our exhibition also presented wines: rhubarb and berry - from black and red currants. After the official part of the holiday, these drinks were tasted with pleasure by the guests of the holiday. Our exposition can no longer be imagined without large-fruited quince, samples of which were taken apart by guests for cultivation in their gardens. It is not the first time that huge ears of rye, full of grains, have become part of the exhibition and the background against which various vegetables looked beautiful.

The exhibition of our gardeners' achievements always ends with the awarding of the winners, who are usually named by the jury. This time, its members were at a loss to identify cool spots, as each gardener had something interesting about the exhibit. Therefore, gifts were received by all the participants of the exhibition, including our guests. It should be noted that the gifts, and these were the things the gardeners needed, were taken care of by the workers of the Suzdalsky Culture Center.

Our holiday ended with a common feast, which included preparations, vegetables and fruits from the exhibition table, as well as those brought by the participants of the holiday. And then there was another concert in which our favorite songs were performed. The Harvest Festival was a success. We had a good time and met members of other clubs. All went home in a great mood.
