Read the previous part: Choosing potato varieties. Part 1
At the beginning of my article, I talked about the path of potatoes to people and how their varieties are classified. Fans of the "second bread" may ask: where to get varieties that will delight you with a good harvest of delicious tubers.
I can reassure everyone: now in our region, specialized farms and shops offer a sufficient number of varieties that meet all tastes of gardeners and summer residents. One of such farms is Semenovodstvo LLC in the Gatchina region. It offers a very large selection of potato varieties. You will find a description of them below.

Medium-early high-yielding cultivar of SZNIISKh selection "Belogorka" (1982). The bush is low, strongly branched, the leaves are medium, the flowering is medium, the flowers are white. Taste is average. Starch content 10.7-15%, protein -1.8-1.95%. Resistance to late blight is average, the variety is not resistant to common scab, golden potato nematode. It is moderately affected by viruses. The variety is resistant to potato cancer. Tubers are white, round-oval. The peel is white, smooth. The eyes are small, superficial, pink. The digestibility is poor, the keeping quality of tubers is average. On cold soil, the variety grows. Tuber weight 86-133 g. Demanding on moisture, suitable for any soil. The optimum planting density is 6-6.5 tubers per square meter. Suitable as table potatoes as well as winter potatoes.
Breeding SZNIISKh "Belogorka" (1996). Medium early variety for table use. The tubers are round, white, smooth. The eyes are few in number, of medium depth. Tuber weight 103-144 g. White pulp, tender, taste assessment 4.1-4.7 points. Starch content is 14.5-18.4%, does not darken during cooking and cutting. The bush is of medium height, well leafy, low flowering, white corollas. The nest is compact. Marketable yield 293-390 c / ha. The output of marketable products is 83-96%. The variety can be used for early production.
To obtain an early harvest, it is advisable to vernalize the planting tubers. Keeping quality is good. The variety is resistant to cancer, common scab, relatively resistant to late blight, unstable to golden potato nematode. Drought-resistant, tubers are not prone to early germination during storage. In the conditions of the Leningrad region, seed potatoes are harvested in the second decade of August with mandatory preliminary desiccation at a rate of about July 27-30.
Breeding SZNIISKh "Belogorka" (1996). Mid-season variety for table use. Tubers are round-flattened, smooth. The eyes are small and small. Tuber weight 94-100 g. White pulp, delicate, taste assessment 4-5 points. The starch content is 15-20.7%, does not darken during cooking and cutting. Marketable yield 300 -442 kg / ha. The output of marketable products is 89-95%, keeping quality 91-95%. Resistant to cancer, common scab, weakly resistant to late blight, unstable to golden potato nematode. They are harvested for seed purposes in the third decade of August with obligatory desiccation with a reglon two weeks before harvesting, otherwise mechanized harvesting is impossible, since the tubers are poorly shaken off from the tops. When grown for a longer time, the number of large tubers increases.
Breeding SZNIISKh "Belogorka" and the Institute of General Genetics. Zoned in 2001. Early grade. Productivity up to 500 kg / ha. The average number of tubers in a bush is 11-15 pieces. Marketability 90%. The taste is excellent, boiled tubers are semi-crumbly. The starch content in them is up to 20%. Keeping quality is good. The variety is resistant to cancer, highly resistant to macrosporiosis, moderately resistant to common scab and viral diseases. It is quite resistant to late blight in tubers, not resistant to golden potato nematode. Tubers are pink, round-short-oval. The eye is small, pink. The pulp is white. The bush is upright, of medium height. Flowering is short-lived, lilac flowers with white tips. Variety Snegir in 1998, during a preliminary test at the Gatchina variety plot "Rozhdestveno" in the Leningrad Region, gave the highest yield with an excellent taste assessment.
Breeding CJSC "Vsevolozhskaya Breeding Station". Zoned in 2006. The variety is mid-season, promising, for dining purposes. Tubers are oval, pink, eyes are superficial. The flesh of the tuber is white, not darkening when cut. The corolla of the flower is red-violet.
Productivity 350-490 c / ha, multi-tuber variety (16-23 pcs. In a bush), weight of marketable tuber 80-120 g Marketability 90%. Starch content 13.4-17.1%. Good taste. The variety is resistant to cancer, golden potato nematode, late blight on tops and tubers. Variety value: high marketability, good taste, resistance to golden potato nematode.
Breeding CJSC "Vsevolozhskaya Breeding Station". Zoned in 2006. The variety is mid-season, promising, for dining purposes. Tubers are short-oval, white. The eyes are small, slightly pink. The flesh of the tuber is white, not darkening when cut. The corolla of the flower is white. Productivity 380-460 kg / ha. Marketability 96%. The mass of the commercial tuber is 130 g. The starch content is 15-17%. The taste is excellent. The variety is resistant to cancer, golden potato nematode. Late blight resistance is high. Variety value: high marketability, good taste, resistance to golden potato nematode.
Breeding CJSC "Vsevolozhskaya Breeding Station". Zoned in 2006. Medium early variety, promising for dining purposes. The tubers are red, oval, the eyes are superficial, the skin is smooth, the flesh of the tuber is white, not darkening when cut. The corolla of the flower is blue-violet, small. Starch content 14-18%. Good taste. Productivity 350-430 c / ha. Marketability 94%. The mass of marketable tuber is 90-120 g. It is resistant to cancer, golden potato nematode, relatively resistant to late blight. Variety value: high marketability, good taste, resistance to golden potato nematode.

Swiss chard beet has a high taste. It is rich in protein and sugars. Chard is prized for its vitamin-rich leaves and petioles. In terms of their content, it surpasses beetroot. They contain up to 50 ascorbic acid, and up to 4 mg of carotene, provitamin A per 100 g of raw material.
