Another undoubted advantage of the mesh fence is that it practically does not shade the plants, and this is very important for ensuring their normal development.

Most often, the netting netting is fixed in a metal frame made of steel corners. The frame is welded by electric or gas welding. Holes are drilled in it or metal rods made of thick wire are welded in the form of brackets, on which the ends of the mesh are fixed. Usually frames with a mesh are mounted on metal pipes-pillars, but it is quite acceptable to use reinforced concrete ones. The main thing is that on such a pillar at the required height there are steel strips with holes on which the frames are fixed. And if you do not have the opportunity to weld the frames, it is quite possible to do without them …

During my life, I have built many fences from a chain-link mesh, and in various versions, so I gained the necessary practical experience and can find the best way out in any situation. One of them I offer to the readers' attention.

Along the top and bottom of the entire length of the fence at the desired height (and this depends on the height of the mesh), using bolts, I fix metal corners with a section of 32x32 or 36x36 millimeters. Between each other at the joints I connect them with steel plates as shown in Figure 12, position 3. At the top of the pipe-pillar, I drill a hole only from the outside at such a level that you can insert a bolt into the hole with your fingers. The hole is through at the bottom. If there are no corners, use water pipes with a diameter of 25 millimeters. These are the pipes through which hot and cold water is supplied to your apartment. Screw the mesh to the corners and to the pillar pipes with wire.

Quite often you have to see how summer residents, not bothering themselves with making reliable cross-bars, on which the mesh is usually attached, are limited to a wire stretched over the top. And sometimes they do without wire at all … It is clear that on his site every owner is free to do whatever he pleases, including when erecting a fence. But such a fence is unlikely to decorate the site, and there will obviously be big problems with durability … In addition, in this case, the mesh can be easily removed (that is, stolen).

Perhaps the only drawback of a fence made of a chain-link mesh is that it actually does not protect the house and garden from intruders, since the mesh cells serve as a kind of steps for them. Unfortunately, I know this from my own experience: I experienced attacks on my site. Since I have a real garden strawberry plantation on my site, and there are a great many who want to treat themselves to it for free, after several years of fighting with thieves with varying success, I improved the chain-link fence. Specifically, I increased it with the same mesh. And he did it this way …

I collected scraps of the already mentioned water pipes - as many in number as there are pillars in the fence around the entire perimeter. From one end of each pipe I measured one meter and in this place I welded transverse pieces of reinforcement (or you can use metal strips and corners and bolt them). The length of the crossbars is about 10 millimeters. They are necessary so that these thinner pipes do not fall into pipes-pillars, which are of a larger diameter.

At the end of the meter mark of each pipe, I bent and welded a hook made of wire with a diameter of 6 millimeters to secure the top of the mesh on it. After that, I inserted the racks into the pipes-pillars, hung and fixed the chain-link mesh on them with wire.

The total height of this fence is 2.5 meters, and it developed as follows: 1.5 meters - the height of the former fence; 1.5 meters - the height of the new extended mesh; 0.5 meters - the height at which the new mesh, when aligned, overlapped the old one. My efforts were not in vain … For the third year already, none of the intruders even tried to enter the site.

So, if there is a need and opportunity, be smart and build something similar on your site, maybe even more perfect, and you will not lose! If it is not possible to buy a mesh, but there is welding, then frames from corners, steel strips or wire are quite capable of making yourself.

Gas welding allows the use of wire of any diameter. When welding, a wire with a diameter of at least 5 millimeters is used, because a thinner wire will burn through.

There is one more very unpleasant moment here … The wire is supplied by the manufacturer exclusively in coils. Therefore, the coil has to be unwound and the wire straightened. I must say that doing this with a wire with a diameter of 5-6 millimeters is not at all easy. Especially to straighten it. No matter how much you fight with her, she never turns out smooth …

Recently, combined fences with the use of concrete, stones, bricks, and metal have become increasingly popular (especially around cottages and private mansions). True, fences using metal have such a drawback: they quickly corrode, and therefore need to be systematically cleaned from rust.

Often, summer residents paint fences and barriers with any paint that is at hand. And this often does not harmonize not only with the environment and vegetation on the site, but also gives the site a rather unsightly look.

However, those for whom a summer cottage is not only a place for hard but joyful work, but also a place for resting the soul and body, can be offered to build a decorative fence with climbing plants or metal pipes and wire from wooden blocks of any section.

In a word, the construction of a fence is a truly unrestrained flight of imagination of a summer resident-builder, limited only by the number of acres and financial capabilities. So go for it …
