Good for me with the "perpetum mobile"

Noricum knotted
Noricum knotted

Let me remind those who have already completed the school course for a long time that "perpetum mobile" is a perpetual motion machine. I also call one plant. Which one and why? Read - you will find out.

In fact, it is a knotty or knobby norichnik. Its botanical name Scrophularia nodosa comes from the Latin Scrophula - "scrofula". It is explained by the fact that since ancient times, the cinquefoil has been used in medicine against scrofula, and nodosa - "knotty" is caused by the form of tuberous roots with pineal growths.

This is a perennial herb with a tuberous thickened rhizome and ribbed tetrahedral stems from 50 to 120 cm high. The leaves are large, opposite, oblong, with pointed ends and serrated edges. The flowers are small, olive green, gathered in a loose panicle. They bloom throughout the second half of summer, attracting many bees. Norichnik is an excellent honey plant. Seeds are small, dark brown, almost black, ripen in August and spill out from bolls. It often self-seeds.

The norichnik is found in the European part of Russia, in the Urals, in Siberia. It settles in floodplain meadows, on damp forest edges, along the banks of rivers, lakes, swamps.

The plant contains a large amount of saponins and a poisonous component - the alkaloid scrofularin.

The plant is poisonous! However, this should not discourage gardeners from using it. After all, many poisonous plants are used in the treatment of nervous diseases and especially cancer, and it is this property that is used to destroy diseased cells. You just need to use it only as directed by a doctor and strictly observe the dose prescribed by the doctor. By the way, the famous foxglove, also poisonous and also medicinal, belongs to the Norichnikov family.

In folk medicine, it is used for insomnia, headache, scrofula, goiter, hemorrhoids; for kidney disease, in the treatment of wounds, abscesses, scabies, eczema, lichen, cancer; as a good blood-purifying, restorative and tonic, anthelmintic.

The main medicinal raw materials are rhizomes. Infusions and decoctions are prepared from them. They are a good blood-purifying agent for furunculosis, skin rashes, itching and other skin diseases, as well as for inflamed lymph nodes, goiter, neoplasms and arthritis. The infusion is prepared as follows: 1 teaspoon of raw materials is insisted for 2-3 hours in 1 glass of boiling water (daily rate) and sipped during the day.

Leaf powder is used to heal abscesses, wounds. In Tibetan medicine, norichnik is a general tonic, in Chinese it is anti-cancer.

It is easy to grow a norichnik. You can sow seeds before winter and early spring. They do not need stratification. Sow to a depth of 1 cm. In the first year, a rosette of leaves and a tuberous root with a diameter of 1.5-2 cm grow. Plants begin to bloom from the second year. The norichnik is very winter-hardy; it does not need shelter for the winter. Plants are durable and also self-sowing well. In a word, having settled on your site, the norichnik will live on it for many years without requiring additional efforts from you.

Harvesting of roots is carried out from the second year. Since for medicinal purposes the norichnik raw materials are used in very small doses, only 1-2 plants can be dug up per year. The roots are olive-light green in the shape of pineal tubers, the largest being about the size of a fist. They are dug up in the fall, washed from the ground in cold water, cut into thin plastics and dried in a ventilated dark place. Well-dried raw materials are stored in paper bags for two years.

The norichnik bloom is long - from late June to September. Its flowers are inconspicuous, but very attractive … for bees! A cheerful company of bumblebees gathers at the same time. You will not get bored by the blooming norichnik yourself, listening to their measured hum and buzz and watching the whole plant sway even in the most calm. Since the flowers of the norichnik do not close in any bad weather, this movement occurs almost constantly. It's just some kind of perpetum mobile! Standing next to him, you recharge yourself with energy from this "perpetual motion machine"!
