Some indoor plant lovers are ready to water indoor plants at the slightest drying out of the topsoil. Meanwhile, in winter, plants evaporate less moisture, the absorption of moisture by the roots and its evaporation by the soil itself also decrease.

At the same time, in conditions of low temperature and excessive humidity, the root system develops slowly, and due to lack of air, individual sections of the roots may die off. Dead root areas are inhabited by pathogenic fungi - pitya, fusarium, rhizoctonia, late blight and others, affecting living root tissues; as a result, root rot develops. Typical signs of these diseases are browning and decay of roots, thinning of the root part of the stem. The same conditions provoke the development of similar diseases - black leg and black rot. Plants can be affected and killed by root rot already in the germination phase even before they emerge on the surface. Diseased plants lag behind in growth and development and are easily pulled out of the soil. The source of infection is most often found in soil, compost, crates and pots.

Prevention of root rot

For prevention, you can offer heat treatment (steaming or heating on fire) or spilling the soil before planting with a solution of organic fertilizer " Gumistar for indoor and ornamental plants" (2 caps / 1 liter of water), which has an antifungal effect, or one of the biological products: Alirin B, Glyocladin (old name - trichodermin), Gamair, Fitosporin-M, Baikal EM-1 (spill the soil with a solution of the drug at the rate of 10 ml / l of water). Moreover, it is possible to water vegetative plants with Fitosporin and Baikal EM-1.

Black rot treatment

At the initial stage of the disease, it is recommended to spray the plant with one of the fungicidal drugs: from biological drugs - Alirin B or Glyocladin.

When transplanting plants, the roots are treated with fungicides (antifungal drugs). For this purpose, you can also take the fertilizer Gumistar (3 caps per 1 liter of water), Alirin B (1 tablet per 10 liters of water), Agat-25K. Plants should be planted in light soil and followed by moderate watering.

In the later stages of the disease, chemical preparations may be required: cuproxate, Bordeaux mixture, colloidal sulfur (instructions for use are on their packaging). Diseased plants, especially at the deep stage of damage, are removed along with a lump of soil, after which it is advisable to sprinkle the rest of the earth with ash.
