Growing tomatoes

For many years, cultivating tomatoes in a greenhouse, he developed his own method, which allows you to always harvest a good harvest of delicious ripe fruits.

I always lay in the greenhouse for tomatoes in the fall. She is very tall, inside - with a thick layer of hay. The ridge is located in the center of the greenhouse, its size is 1.5x5 m, opposite the door. Usually we plant 18 bushes of seedlings on it in two rows. The height of the greenhouse is 3.5 m at the highest point.

The requirement for growing tomatoes, which I strictly adhere to: cover the greenhouse early with foil (preferably at the end of March), and plant the plants at the end of April or early May, depending on the weather. Before planting seedlings in the ground, it is important to know the weather forecast so that after at least a week it will be warm and favorable for the plant. This is necessary in order for the seedlings to take root and take root, then it will more easily tolerate spring return frosts, if any, and will grow faster.

If during this initial period it was possible to "get into the stream" with the weather, then the next stage was to ensure the "correct" growth of the tops of tomatoes and the obligatory airing of the greenhouse in the daytime. I consider airing and watering to be the most important factors in growing tomatoes. How can you tell if your greenhouse is well ventilated on the hottest summer days? I define it for myself as follows: if a person, undressed to swimming trunks, is not stuffy in this form in a greenhouse, then it is ventilated correctly.

After planting the seedlings, the tops grow rapidly. Tomatoes grow according to the solar-lunar calendar: tops, ovary, fruit. Planting tomatoes does not always coincide with the calendar; the arrival of the first spring heat makes its own adjustments. At the initial stage of 2-3 weeks, tomatoes do not need to be watered, but you need to follow them and clearly capture the moment when they themselves enter the solar-lunar cycle and begin growing in the soil according to this calendar. The intensity of watering will increase as the tops grow, and then the formation of bushes of 2-3 stems begins.

I grow only tall varieties and hybrids in the greenhouse, in particular, the Blagovest F1 hybri

… He always gives us a good harvest from year to year. We carry tall varieties in 2-3 stems, if thickening begins, then we remove one stem. Throughout the entire cultivation, we carefully observe the bushes, and if at some point we see that the bush does not grow, "fattens", then we remove the entire bush at once, and its place will be taken by the stems of the bushes growing nearby. For example, last year three out of 18 bushes were removed and 15 were left.

On the Blagovest hybrid, we hardly remove the stepsons, we tie everything up, forming the growth of the bushes of these tomatoes as if in a bouquet - the higher, the wider the bush. 2-3 shoots that come from the bush, I push it inward, it turns out a ridge with an area of 1.5 x 5 m at the bottom, and at the top the growing area of tomato tops is 3 x 6 m. Water the tomatoes only with warm water with ash infusion, but three times per season fed with double superphosphate. Our tomatoes get the rest of their nutrition from a garden bed properly prepared for spring. By the end of the season, the height of the greenhouse is often not enough, we bend the bushes, but do not pinch them.

Forcing the tops sparsely and growing it like a bouquet allows less or almost no formation of tomato bushes, you just need to tie it up, gradually removing the lower leaves as the lower brushes mature. That is, the main work in the greenhouse is irrigation and garter. But the main thing is airing, since overheating of a tomato bush can be compared to a situation, as if a person were placed in a sauna for a day. It is clear that he will get sick, overheating is just as harmful for the tomato bush. You should never forget that any greenhouse in spring and autumn is clothes, and clothes should always be comfortable, and in summer a greenhouse for tomatoes is a prison, so you need to carefully monitor the ventilation.

It is constantly necessary to open a large area of the film at the top of the ends on both sides in warm summer. On warm summer nights, the upper ends of the greenhouse should be open at night, until August 10-15. Observing the development of tomatoes over the years, I noticed that such airing of the greenhouse makes their bushes work for intensive fruiting. At the same time, a drip shower does not go from the film to the tomato bushes, the film does not fog up and more intensely transmits the sun's rays. But I open the doors near the greenhouse only at an air temperature of + 25 ° C and above.

The main ventilation of the greenhouse during the season is through the ends. With this cultivation, I was convinced that the tomatoes later began to fall ill with late blight. If the weather permits, we keep tomato bushes in the greenhouse until the first frost. During this period, I do not ventilate the greenhouse so intensively, so I cut off the excess leaves and diseased shoots from the tomato so that the tomatoes breathe. But all the subtleties cannot be explained - here are the basic methods of growing, which I adhere to.

There is also a way to grow tomatoes in a greenhouse, as in the open field, then the tomatoes are tastier, the height of the bushes is smaller, the brushes are formed denser to each other. When growing tomatoes, you can choose two directions: the first is to get not a very large number of tomatoes, but they will begin to ripen early and at the end of August all will ripen - with this method, you need to deal with the continuous formation of the bush.

We chose the second direction - less injury to the tomato bush, let it grow freely, tie the maximum number of fruits. Fruiting in this case is stretched, and the collection of ripe fruits begins in late July and continues until frost. I build greenhouses in the garden in the shape of a "fungus", their roofs are broken, the extreme sides are low - greenhouses of this shape turned out to be warmer.

With our growing method, it is possible to achieve a yield of up to 10 kilograms of ripe fruits per bush. Tomatoes bore three lunar cycles last season. The hybrid Blagovest F1 especially distinguished itself with its harvest.
