Having finished winter fishing, we, the trinity of avid fishermen: Vadim, Oleg and I, having gathered together, began to recall the most significant events of the past season. Oleg and I had nothing interesting. But the case that happened to Vadim, I think, deserves special attention: it is too unusual. Here's what he said:

“In early April, one might even say, my son and I were fishing on the last ice on Lake Nakhimov. We arrived quite late. Either someone had already managed to catch all the fish before us, or we somehow didn’t please her, or it was not a lucky day for us, but it didn’t matter: in a few hours I caught nine fish, my son - two. On this we decided to finish fishing and started getting ready to go home.

At this time, an old man in a sea pea jacket appeared on the lake. A little behind him, a small shaggy mongrel trotted behind him. Approaching us, he greeted and asked:

- How's the catch?

I showed our meager trophies.

He shook his head and shouted:

- My friend, come to me! - And when the dog came running, he ordered: - Look …

The dog wagged its tail happily and went to the nearest hole. Turning her head in one direction, then in the other, she looked into it, and then went to the next. Then to one more. And each time the procedure for examining the hole was repeated.

Finally the dog stopped at our two distant holes and began to bark loudly.

“It looks like there are fish in these holes, so fish here,” the old man advised.

My son and I looked at each other in disbelief, but still followed his advice. And it paid off … Active biting began immediately, and in a short time we caught at least four dozen tails: ruffs, perches, roaches. When the bite had noticeably weakened, I looked around and saw that the old man followed the dog from hole to hole and fished out several fish from each.

I approached him and from the bottom of my heart thanked him for his help.

- And what have I done? - He asked, - This is Druzhok, you need to thank, - he stroked the dog and added: - Other fishermen even offer money so that only Druzhok could find cool holes. So he can earn.

And he said that two years ago he discovered the ability of his four-footed partner to somehow determine whether there is a fish in the hole.

- Now I'm always with the catch, - finished the old man.

And wishing each other good luck, we parted. As if saying goodbye, Druzhok looked around, wagged his tail and ran after the owner."
