Mormyshka is a primordially Russian lure and tackle for fishing with it, perhaps the most effective device for winter fishing. Countless types of jigs, and an even greater number of varieties of their game, give the angler an excellent opportunity for creative search, both in improving the jig itself and in its movement in the water. Here are some of these improvements.

1. Often in winter, fishing success brings fishing from the bottom, when the jig lies on the ground, the line is stretched, and the nod is bent over the hole. In this case, a round jig is better suited - a shot with a hole for the fishing line in its very center. On the ground in the water, it lays down with its sting up, the fish is immediately spotted on it. If the jig is elongated and the hole in it is displaced towards the tail, empty bites are inevitable.

2. With a weak bite, you can resort to this trick. Dip the jig into the water so that the line runs near the wall of the hole. This trick is especially effective in good light conditions or when the ice is still thin. In these cases, a sheaf of light passes through the hole, and the fish is afraid to enter it, and therefore hides in the shadows. If there is even a slight shading between the illuminated area and the fish, it can quite grab the jig.

3. Figure 1 shows a jig, the nature of the oscillations of which can be regulated without changing the pace of its movement given by the hand. There is a pellet on the forend of the hook; it moves along it and stops in the right place with a piece of cambric or a piece of rubber. In the wilderness, when the fish is lethargic and inactive, the pellet is stopped by pressing it against the jig (Fig. 1, position 1). In this case, the oscillation frequency will be greater, and the swing will decrease.

At the beginning and end of the freeze-up, when the fish is more mobile, the pellet is moved to the bend of the hook (Fig. 1, position 2). In this case, the amplitude of the vibrations increases, which contributes to a better bite. The pellet regulator on the jig allows the angler to maneuver it without much effort.

4. Before tying the jig, carefully check the hole in it. A sharp edge, an unnoticed burr can cause the line to break when hooking a more or less weighty fish.

5. Fishermen often decorate jig hooks with multi-colored cambric, threads, hairs, beads. Moreover, few people know that, unlike the mathematical rule, a change in terms here affects the final result. It has been experimentally established that roach prefers artificial bait in a combination of white-black-white, bream - red-black-red, perch - black-white-black. Although there can be no definite answer regarding color. It all depends on the specific reservoir, the season and on the aquatic inhabitants that the fish feed on.

6. If, with a good bite, for some reason all the jigs are wasted, you can try to hold the pellet on the line and adjust it along the line to the hook itself. Such an impromptu jig may well provoke the fish to bite.

7. When fishing for predatory fish with a jig with a fry attachment, empty bites often occur. This can be avoided by using the jigs shown in Figure 2. The predator willingly takes on them and almost never picks off the fry held on the hook with a rubber ring with impunity (Fig. 2, position 3). The place where the second hook is tied (Fig. 2, position 4) should be well tinted with red nitro enamel. The hook movement limiter (Fig. 2, position 5) consists of two turns of soldered copper wire.

8. Sometimes anglers hang a second additional jig above the main one on the line. In this case, it should be lighter than the first. How to do it? It is necessary to dissolve pieces of foam of medium hardness in acetone until a semi-liquid mass is formed. Then insert a needle into the eye of a hook of a suitable size and, rotating the workpiece, form a jig to any size. After two to three days, when the mass hardens, the needle is removed from it, and the resulting jig is polished. If you need to make a colored jig, add a little aniline dye to the plastic while stirring.

9. When fishing with a jig, remember that the bite signaling nod can behave in different ways. Therefore, in order to avoid empty bites, it is necessary to undercut the nod at any "suspicious" movement: when he shuddered slightly, stopped playing or slightly bent to the side. You need to hook instantly, but not with the whole hand, as is done, for example, in the summer, when fishing with a float rod, but only with the hand. Usually this is enough - the hook is firmly embedded in the fish's mouth.
