Your cat is losing hair, eczema on the neck and tummy, and mussing. The stomach and neck are shed, sometimes it is accompanied by itching, some weeping places. It is important to understand that not every disease can be eliminated with cosmetics. Skin problems in cats are due to either parasitic diseases, or hormonal disorders, or due to problems with the kidneys, liver, intestines, pancreas. The root cause of such pathologies may have various clinical signs that the owner of the animal may not notice.

Nowadays, very often, when you come to veterinarians, they ask for a urine test on your animal. In our article we will tell you why you need to do this in a timely manner. Urinalysis is part of a complete assessment of the condition of animals, especially sick animals. It plays an important role in patients with urinary tract problems, provides important information about the state of the genitourinary system. By analyzing urine, you can make an early diagnosis of many chronic diseases and timely prevent them, give recommendations for balanced feeding of your pet. Very often, the owners of cats, and especially cats, are faced with such a problem as urolithiasis. What it is?

All salts excreted through the kidneys are dissolved in normal urine. However, under certain conditions, salts precipitate in the form of urine sand. Urine sand accumulates in the bladder, thickens and turns into urinary stones. This abnormality is called urolithiasis. It is characterized by a violation of water-salt metabolism and inflammation, that is, urolithiasis is a violation of the work of all organs and systems, and not a local disease. As crystals accumulate in the bladder, they begin to clog the urethra and the animal stops peeing. Practice shows that every second cat owner faces this problem. A timely analysis will help eliminate such critical moments in your animal's life. Your pet should be examined by a veterinarian once every two months, but against this background, you should have a urine test twice a month.

What are the causes of this disease? First of all, the composition of the diet. The content of minerals, the influence of the composition of the feed on the urine reaction are considered to be the main factors predisposing the disease of KSD.

The most common disease of the urinary system is cystitis, an inflammation of the bladder.

When cystitis is observed: anxiety of the animal, soreness when probing the bladder area with fingers, sometimes urinary incontinence. The predisposing factors are hypothermia, microorganisms and salts.

Cystitis rarely occurs as an independent disease. Very often it is accompanied by urethritis. In males, urethritis is caused by microorganisms from the prepuce. In bitches, urethritis occurs with vaginitis, pyometra, and is also provoked by microorganisms entering from the intestines.

At the moment, cystitis is treated quite easily compared to another more complex urinary system disease - kidney disease. These diseases include nephritis, pyelonephritis, glomerulonephritis.

Nephritis is an infectious-allergic inflammation of the kidneys. The cause of nephritis is the transferred infections. Nephritis often develops suddenly, 10-14 days after infection, but hypothermia can also cause it. Do not forget to have a urinalysis after an infection, as the analysis will make it easier for your doctor to prescribe treatment for your animal. Pyelonephritis is an inflammation of the renal pelvis and tissues of the kidney itself. The leading role in the onset of this disease is played by microorganisms (cocci, Escherichia coli). They can rise from the urethra and urinary bladder, but they can also be carried into the kidney with the blood stream, if there is any chronic focus of inflammation in the body (pyometra, abscess, ostiomyelitis, dental caries).

Dear animal owners, remember that pyelonephritis is an insidious disease and requires long-term treatment! Treatment should be continued until a good urinalysis appears. Untreated nephritis and pyelonephritis lead to kidney failure! Glomerulonephritis is rare in the classical form, as this disease progresses quickly. The disease lasts 1-2 weeks and ends either with the recovery of the animal, with timely treatment, or with the death of the animal from uremia. Glomerulonephritis is characterized by "flying" edema, vomiting, diarrhea, thirst, frequent urge to urinate against the background of a decrease in the volume of daily urine. The worst disease of the urinary system is renal failure. It is subdivided into acute and chronic. Renal failure is a visible clinical manifestation of impairment of all renal function, sometimes they lose the ability to excrete metabolites. This is usually observed with a loss of 75% of the functional mass of the kidneys.

The main signs of renal failure are vomiting, thirst, an increase in the daily volume of urine, in the last stages there is a smell of urine both from the animal itself and from its mouth. To keep your animal healthy and feel great, have a urine test twice a month, and you will save him and yourself from many problems. How and when to collect urine? The most correct and vivid picture we can observe in the morning urine. We put it in a clean jar, and within 1-2 hours we provide the analysis to the laboratory.
