Every dog or cat owner knows that an animal must be looked after, taking care of its annual vaccination, protection from fleas, ticks and deworming. How many have heard of the identification of pets? A little about world practice. Electronic identification of animals has existed in the world for over twenty years. Almost all of Europe is chipping pets, this has become the norm, just like vaccination against rabies (chipping of an animal is combined with the first vaccination against rabies). Chipping will help the owner find his pet in case of loss. The lost animal is taken to the overexposure point, the chip number is determined, and the owner is found by the number in a single database.

In addition, control and monitoring systems have already been created on the basis of animal chipping in many countries of the world. In veterinary clinics, medical records and preventive measures for each animal have numbers corresponding to the number of the microchip. To participate in exhibitions, it is a mandatory requirement that the animal has a microchip (the number of which is also included in the pedigree). The chip is indispensable for research work, as it helps to identify any animal. Conservation organizations use the identification system to control and monitor the migration of wild animals.

In our country, owners of pedigree dogs and cats face identification problems. The owners of pets, who do not belong to the family of elite four-legged fellows, shrug their shoulders in bewilderment: "Identification? What is it? Why?"

Let's take a consistent look together: what is identification of pets, why and who needs it.

The electronic animal identification system consists of three components: a microchip, which is a carrier of a unique digital code, a scanner and a single database.

The microchip (2 * 12 mm) contains a unique fifteen-digit digital code (128 bit): 643 0981 XXXXXXXX. An inductance coil that does not contain precious metals, power supplies, does not have its own radiation, is enclosed in a sheath of biocompatible glass and is implanted under the skin of the animal. The size of the microchip is no more than a grain of rice, so the procedure for inserting it is extremely simple. Each microchip is in an individual sterile injector, with the help of which it is moved under the skin of the animal to the specified location. The microchip insertion procedure is identical to a conventional subcutaneous injection. Biocompatible glass ensures the absence of rejection reactions and microchip migration. Once under the skin, the microchip is surrounded by a connective tissue capsule for 5-7 days, preventing its movement. It is impossible to lose or damage the microchip - it becomes part of the subcutaneous layer. The safety of microchip insertion is confirmed by the practice of the Moscow Zoo, where snakes, lizards and fish are successfully microchipped.

The second component of the identification system is a scanner. It is designed to read a unique digital code from a microchip, the operating frequency is 134.2 kHz, the reading distance is from 15 cm to 1 m. There are three types of scanners: portable MINI MAX scanner, portable ISO MAX (iMAX PLUS) scanner with an extended set of functions and also a stationary POWER MAX scanner. The fundamental difference between these scanners is that the MINI MAX scanner reads the microchip numbers of its sample, and ISO MAX and POWER MAX - not only "their" microchips, but also chips from other manufacturers that comply with the international ISO standard.

The third component of the electronic identification system is a database, which, in turn, consists of a local database installed in a veterinary institution and a single database posted on the ANIMAL-ID. RU Internet portal. The local database is a set of software and hardware tools that allow you to keep an effective account of animals both locally (in a clinic or nursery) and remotely through the ANIMAL-ID server, which is effective when working on a field basis. The local program is extremely easy to use and install, and is adapted even for an unprepared user. Information about chipped animals from the local database goes into a single database ANIMALID. RU, duplicated on the backup server, which prevents the possibility of information loss. Unified ANIMAL-ID database. RU is part of the international animal search system PETMAXX. COM.

Of course, electronic identification is especially needed by owners of breeding animals.

First, chipping is a great alternative to branding. Pain, distortion of the structure of the skin and often tarnishing of the brand and the need to repeat the procedure - all this can now be avoided by replacing the marking with chipping.

In addition, when replacing an animal, a forgery of the brand will not present difficulties, but a microchip with an individual number cannot be forged; when an attempt is made to surgically remove it, a visible scar will remain at the site of microchip implantation.

In addition, since July 3, 2004, the rules for the import of animals into the EU countries have changed. When imported into the EU from non-EU countries, pets must be identified with a distinct brand or implanted microchip. The transition period, during which the stamp will be accepted as an identification mark, is 4 years from the date of entry into force of the regulation (3.7.2004), after which, from 2008, the only acceptable way of identification will be a microchip. The microchip must comply with either ISO 11784 or ISO 11785. In Finland, for example, only Datamars and Indexel microchips are accepted.

But identification is needed not only for this. The presence of a microchip in an animal can greatly facilitate its search in case of loss. An electronic passport makes the animal a full member of the international community, helping to freely cross all existing borders.

Let's take one more step together in the development of civilized relations with our smaller brothers!
