Before starting a story about plant growth regulators, I think you need to first explain to readers what these drugs are and how they work. Every gardener probably knows that if we remove the apical bud on a branch, we will ensure that it will no longer grow upward. And if we cut off the tip of the root, then we will stop its growth in length.

This is because at the ends of the roots, and the branches too, there are so-called "growth points". These are miniature chemical plants that produce the most complex organic substances. It is these substances that are plant growth stimulators or, to put it more difficultly, growth hormones.

Scientists called these substances auxins, and they (substances) control almost all biological processes in the cells of plant tissue.

Auxin was first obtained by accident, later it became the prototype of a growth stimulant that is currently popular in horticulture, called heteroauxin. This drug is also produced under natural conditions, for example, there is a lot of heteroauxin in the waste products of bacteria and fungi.

The use of heteroauxin was found in cases when the plant is weakened, or the soil is not rich in nutrients. The roots are treated with heteroauxin by soaking them in a solution with a concentration of 0.06 g / l for about 18-20 hours. This procedure will help the young tree to settle down in a new place due to more intensive root growth.

In amateur gardening, when transplanting a fruit tree, even with a well-developed root system, it should be coated on all sides with a creamy mass, the optimal components of which are peat chips and clay, mixed with an aqueous solution of heteroauxin. After that, the seedling must be immediately placed in the planting hole. After that, the tree should be watered with the rest of the heteroauxin solution. It is desirable that its volume be at least five liters.

Heteroauxin has a positive effect not only on seedlings. Thanks to its action, cuttings are much better rooted and even growths are formed on them.

For processing lignified cuttings, a solution of heteroauxin with a concentration of 0.6 g / l is used. They are immersed in it for about two-thirds of their length and kept there for 12-15 hours. For green cuttings, the concentration of the solution will require less - 0.3 g / l, they are also immersed in a third of the length and kept in it for no more than 12 hours.

In addition to heteroauxin, other plant growth stimulants were synthesized, and it was experimentally established that gibbrellins also have properties that stimulate plant growth, for example, among them succinic acid, which is familiar to all of us.

Do not forget that the action of various auxins is also different - some of them accelerate the growth of the root system, while others have a positive effect only on flowering and seed development. There are a number of auxins that exclusively affect the growth of green mass in plants.

Do not forget about dosages either. Here the rule: the more - the better is not applicable, since growth stimulants in small doses are useful and accelerate growth, and in large doses they can destroy the plant. Indeed, in this case, its stems usually elongate three to four times, become too thin or, conversely, too thick, and the leaves wrinkle and often fall off. Considering all this, it is not only unnecessary to abuse drugs in the hope that your plant will magically grow before our eyes, but it is also very dangerous for your pet.

Currently, the following drugs are widely used:

"Athlete" is a plant growth regulator. Its main effect is to slow down the growth of the aerial part, and this, in turn, causes the shortening and thickening of the stem and ultimately leads to an increase in the width of the leaves. The essence of the action of this drug is the redistribution of nutrients so that most of them enter the roots and contribute to an increase in their growth. This drug is used in the form of a solution for irrigation under the roots or by spraying. One important condition is that the number of treatments specified in the instructions must be observed, otherwise the plant may, on the contrary, grow strongly.

"Baikal EM-1" is a preparation containing a whole range of beneficial microorganisms. They are based on lactic acid bacteria that suppress putrefactive microflora.

The function of this drug is to restore soil fertility and improve its structure. Depending on the condition of the soil and plants, you can water the solution more often or, conversely, less often. The drug is used to prepare fertilizer, but is not a fertilizer by itself. To prepare fertilizer "Baikal-EM-1" is diluted in a ratio of 1: 100 (1/2 cup per bucket of water), this solution is used to evenly moisten the compost base (manure, sawdust, tops or any other organic matter). Everything is thoroughly mixed and covered with plastic wrap. After 2-3 weeks, the compost can be used.

Bona Forte» (Bona Forte) represents growth bioregulator which provides root growth accelerates growth of aboveground parts, blossoming promotes more lush and active adaptation and re-planted young adult plants and transplanted. The main purpose of the drug is to combat plant stress arising from transplantation, various diseases, and a sharp change in growth conditions (relevant for large-sized plants).

Sodium humate, in other words, is the sodium salt of humic acids. When dissolved in water, they form humic complexes, which act as biologically active substances. Sodium humate activates the activity of soil-forming organisms and accelerates the metabolism in plant tissues, while increasing their resistance to diseases and pests. Spraying plants with a solution of sodium salts is carried out 3-4 times in two weeks.

Immunocytophyte is a drug produced in tablets and containing arachidonic acid. It activates the natural immunity of plants to diseases, in particular to late blight, Alternaria, peronosporosis, gray mold and powdery mildew, and also increases the resistance of ornamental plants to bacteriosis. After treatment with this preparation, the resistance of plants to diseases is maintained for two months. The drug is a mixture of ethyl esters of fatty acids and urea. The effect of the drug, as I have already noted, mainly consists in activating the immunity of plants to diseases, and it is used, as a rule, on garden crops, but it is also quite suitable for indoor plants, for example, as a means of preventing most diseases.

"Kornevin" is an effective root formation stimulator. Heteroauxin analog. The active ingredient of this drug is indolylbutyric acid. It is produced in sachets of 5 g. It is used in indoor plant growing for plant propagation.

In dry form - the cutting is dusted with the preparation before planting. In the form of a solution - 5 g per 5 l of water - water the seedlings under the root after planting. Soaking green cuttings in this solution for 15-18 hours before planting them in the greenhouse is also effective.

Kresacin is a stronger root stimulator than root, since it contains orthoreoxyacetic acid. Crezacin stimulates plant growth and promotes disease resistance. To spray plants, one tablet is dissolved in three liters of water. To keep the cuttings and soak the root system, one tablet is dissolved in two liters of water and the cuttings are kept in this solution for 15-18 hours before planting in the greenhouse.

"Narcissus" - this preparation contains a whole complex of compounds: chitazan, succinic and humic acids. "Narcissus" stimulates the production of phytoallexins by plant cells, which in turn increase the plant organism's resistance to phytopathogens and root rot. This drug has a very good effect in the fight against nematodes. Its action begins immediately after spraying - the drug spreads through the tissues of the entire plant and prevents the development of pathogenic fungi for a month.

Zircon is an even more complex preparation consisting of a mixture of hydroxycinnamic acids. It is a growth regulator, root former and inducer of flowering and disease resistance. Zircon is obtained from plant materials. As a result of the use of zircon, the growth and development of plants is significantly accelerated, the growth of roots is stimulated, and even temporary protection of plants from drought, excess moisture and lack of light is provided. Zircon stimulates the vital activity of the plant organism, as a result of which the beginning of flowering is accelerated. The use of zircon reduces the risk of plant damage by many diseases many times.

Epin is another natural bioregulator and stimulator of plant growth and development. It contains epibrassinocide. In indoor floriculture and ornamental gardening, epin is used as a stimulator of fruit and root formation, for rejuvenating weakened plants, increasing their immunity and resistance to pests.

I talked about the main drugs and their effects on plants. There are other drugs that are more aggressive. However, the gardener or the florist himself may suffer from their use, therefore, such preparations should not be used without special need.
