Within the framework of the International Landscape Forum (ILF) from 12 to 21 May in St. Petersburg there was an exhibition of landscape studios "Italian Yard". Its exposition was placed in an open area near the Garden City trade and exhibition center located in the Lakhtinsky district of the northern capital.
The theme of the exhibition was due to the fact that 2011 was declared the cross year of Italian culture in Russia and Russia in Italy. In total, the exhibition featured about two dozen competitive works made by masters of landscape firms from St. Petersburg. The projects turned out to be quite diverse, but they were united by the general flavor of the theme set by the organizers, which was provided by strict geometry and regularity of planning, the use of paving, mosaics, flowerpots, garden furniture, gazebos, pergolas, trellises, reservoirs, retaining walls. Of the plants in the mini-gardens presented at the exhibition, blooming rhododendrons and conifers with a columnar, spherical and conical crown (pine, spruce, thuja, junipers) dominated. They sometimes resembled slender southern cypresses. Less common petunias, balsams, astilbe, barberries, ivy, lilac, decorative apple trees and other representatives of the flora.
According to the results of the competition, the first place (grand prix) was awarded to the landscape workshop of Senya Verevkin for the project "Day and Night" saturated with the spirit of the sea: anchor chains, fishing nets and a wooden pontoon harmoniously blended here into the natural environment ennobled by man. The second place was taken by the landscape design studio "Vilar". In the classically regular compositional solution of her project, a fountain was located in the center, and raised rectangular flower beds on either side of it. The top three were completed by the Sakura landscape studio, which presented a garden with a wooden pergola decorated with petunias and a retaining wall flanked by powerful container rhododendrons with snow-white flowers.
