Poultry tailed poultry - a new plant in folk medicine

Once a former classmate came to visit me, as a gift she brought with her a large set of cuttings of all kinds of indoor plants, and when I began to arrange them in vases for rooting, a tiny green onion fell to the floor. Seeing some surprise on my face, my friend explained that this baby would make a big bulb, from which long narrow leaves and a powerful peduncle would later grow, but she did not know the name of this plant.

Indeed, the onion, which I had pushed somewhere under the geranium, behaved unpretentiously and quickly grew fat until it reached the size of a good man's fist. It is pale green in color, with white scales in the form of films, under which there are many children. Children are stored for a long time, they can even be sent by mail.

The plant takes root in almost any soil, even in clean sand. Its leaves are flat, belt-like, up to 5 cm wide and up to 60 cm long. They do not stand straight, but lie down, wriggling. Their ends often dry out, while the base continues to grow.

In November, my green vitreous bulb threw out a huge arrow-stalk with a cluster of numerous white flowers that opened in time for my birthday. They are odorless, 1 cm in diameter, they have 6 petals and 6 stamens. Flowers emit a sweet juice, on which fruit flies flock, it is not clear where they suddenly come from in winter.

Somehow, I immediately had a desire to find out: what kind of miracle is it that has settled in my apartment? Then I had no idea what a useful and necessary plant it was.

The botanical name for it is the tailed birdhouse (Ornithogalum caudatum), and among the people another has taken root - the Indian onion or brandy. It is a perennial plant from the lily family. His homeland is South Africa. It came to our country in 1961. The seeds were purchased by the greenhouse of the Leningrad Botanical Institute of the USSR Academy of Sciences. They were sent to us from the German city of Gothenburg. And after a few years, thanks to its unpretentiousness, the poultry farms firmly conquered the windowsills of many apartments and houses in almost all regions of our country.

We can safely call the Indian onion the newest plant that has begun to be used in folk medicine so widely and so successfully. At the same time, it is still not listed in the official pharmacopoeia! Medical science is just beginning to swing and study the extraordinary properties of the poultry farm.

So how is this plant used and against what diseases?

Most traditional healers consider the poultry farm to be the first remedy for the treatment of chronic radiculitis. To do this, you need to quickly rub the lower back with a piece of sheet 2x2 cm, tie it with a woolen scarf and lie under the blanket. The entire operation should take no more than a minute, because the onion acts very quickly, it burns so hard that even strong men roar like a bear, but after 10 minutes the burning stops and relief comes.

The sap of the poultry farm is colorless, does not stain clothes and does not have a smell, so it is convenient to use it. It is very good to treat wounds with it, especially with animal bites. It is noticed that there are practically no scars after such a procedure.

For a headache, they rub the whiskey with juice. Pieces of the leaf are applied to aching teeth and gums, and Indian onions also help with periodontal disease. Tincture of leaves and flowers of the poultry farm on vodka is used for salt deposits, polyarthritis, osteochondrosis. Sore spots are rubbed with it. Compresses also perfectly help with bruises and abscesses, relieve itching well with mosquito bites and pain with wasps and bees stings.

There is no doubt that the agave and Kalanchoe have long been popularly recognized and introduced into home first-aid kits as a means of emergency care for various diseases. There should also be a poultry farm. If you don't have this plant yet, be sure to start it. In addition to the practical benefits, you will also get aesthetic pleasure, because it blooms so beautifully, and at a time when we have the shortest and darkest days!
