How to top up a green pharmacy

Scientists believe that no less than 10-12 thousand plant species on the globe have healing properties. However, it seems that there is nothing superfluous in nature, therefore, most likely, the healing properties of the rest have not yet been fully studied. For example, experts - chemists and pharmacists - study plants to identify those that can lower blood sugar, as well as those that are beneficial for people with diabetes, instead of sugar.

Among the "diabetic" plants, there are many forest, garden, garden, field and indoor plants that lower blood sugar levels.

In folk medicine, blueberries are considered the champion among forest plants in the number of recipes used by diabetics. Decoctions, infusions and extracts are very often prepared from its crushed leaves. The ability of its extract to reduce blood sugar has been experimentally confirmed, due to the presence of neomyrtillin glycoside in the leaves of this plant. Patients with diabetes in a mild form are recommended daily use of infusion of blueberry leaves: 3 tbsp. l. raw materials are poured into 600 ml of boiling water, insisted for 3-4 hours, filtered. It is necessary to take 200 ml three times a day.

There are a huge number of complex plant collections that include blueberry leaves. Here are some:

Traditional medicine recommends drinking lingonberry juice (berries) and decoctions (from lingonberry leaves). Special tea is prepared by infusing 1 tbsp. tablespoons of leaves in 250 ml of cold water (12 hours), then the infusion is brought to a boil, cooled; take 10 days, then a break (10 days) and repeat the course. Dandelion root is beneficial for diabetes as it contains inulin, not starch. Licorice root has a relatively recent use (mainly in complex harvests) in the food industry as a sugar substitute for diabetics (while its raw materials are consumed very little).

It is advisable to use a tincture from the root of zamaniha high (echinopanax) for mild and moderate forms of diabetes, since it lowers blood sugar, but even in patients treated with insulin, the tincture is quite effective in reducing blood sugar. The systematic intake of high teaspoon tincture (30-40 drops 2-3 times a day 30 minutes before meals) for 1.5-2 months has a favorable effect on the well-being of patients with mild (stage I) diabetes mellitus; its use is especially effective in the complex use of the drug zamanihi with insulin. However, it should not be used for hypertension, agitated or febrile conditions, before bedtime, and for insomnia. To obtain tincture from the roots of zamaniha at home, 20 g of crushed raw materials are poured with 100 g of 70% alcohol, insisted in a warm, dark place (10-15 days),filter and store in a dark glass bottle in a cool place. The tincture should have a light brown color, a bitter taste and a peculiar smell.

According to Japanese, Bulgarian and Russian experts, the extract and tincture from the roots of Eleutherococcus prickly contribute to the treatment of diabetes mellitus, lowering the elevated blood sugar level. Thus, in patients with diabetes after 10-14 days of taking the extract, the amount of sugar in the blood decreases. Researches of scientists confirmed the opinion of ancient scientists from China, Tibet, Korea and India about the help of ginseng in diabetes. Although as a result of its intake, patients do not observe a sharp decrease in blood sugar levels and its complete disappearance from urine, however, weakness, thirst, itching, drowsiness disappear, and working capacity returns.

A decoction of dried pears is recommended to be included in diabetic food in the treatment of diabetes. Since the sugar content in honeysuckle berries is insignificant, they are recommended for diabetic patients. Hazel fruits contain a lot of phosphorus, useful in the treatment of diabetics. Traditional medicine notes that a decoction of dioecious nettle leaves and an infusion of sea buckthorn leaves have a positive effect on the treatment of these patients.

Among vegetables, a high content of inulin - a substance necessary in the treatment of persons suffering from diabetes mellitus, is called scorzonera (otherwise: black root, sweet root or goat), which, unfortunately, gardeners grow little.

The tubers of the most valuable dietary vegetable crop Jerusalem artichoke (earthen pear) contain a lot of phosphate salts and inulin, which are necessary in the treatment of diabetics.

A lot of inulin (8%) is also contained in oat root (sometimes it is called white root, goat, and in England even "vegetable oyster"). But it is also rarely grown in vegetable gardens, although its therapeutic effect in the treatment of diabetes is undeniable. Due to its low carbohydrate content, cabbage can be added to the menu for diabetics. Common chicory is also noteworthy, the leaves and seeds of which contain insulin. Fresh (root) leaves of cultivated chicory give salads of high taste, which occupy an honorable place in the diet of diabetics. An infusion of celery leaves and roots is also used. Scientists also obtained positive results in the treatment of diabetes mellitus with an extract of chicory roots: the well-being of patients in the initial stage of the disease improved, and the sugar content in urine decreased. In folk medicine, an infusion of cinnamon rose hips (cinnamon rose) containing a significant amount of phosphates, used as a medicine.

There are recipes for blood sugar lowering remedies that are prepared with wine. The green part of the leek is well chopped and poured into 2 liters of red wine for 10 days, after which they use a drink of 25-30 g after meals. The leaves of the cuff are insisted in wine for a day, after which they take 3 tbsp. l. three times a day.

Among the plants that lower blood sugar levels, but are not common in the northwest regions, experts name almonds (fruits), mulberries (fruits), ginkgo (fruits, leaves) and walnuts. So, with diabetes mellitus, it is suggested to take 20-25 drops of tincture from walnut partitions on vodka (1:10) together with half a glass of water between meals three times a day (within a month).

Nature and some indoor plants have not spared, endowing them with healing qualities to help diabetics. So, all growers are well aware of a small herbaceous plant (commeliad family) with striped leaves - hanging zebrin (Zebrina tradescantia) - one of the most common indoor plants with creeping or hanging shoots.

In the folk medicine of the Latin American state of Venezuela, zebrin leaves are recommended to lower blood sugar in diabetes. Bulbous plant zephyranthes large-flowered (amaryllidaceous family), which is popularly called "upstart" for the quick and unexpected ejection of peduncles and the blooming of beautiful white flowers (5-6 cm in size) - a native of the damp habitats of the tropical zone of Central and South America (homeland of Guatemala). In different countries of these regions, many types of zephyranthes are used to treat diabetes as a means of lowering blood sugar. The psidium tree (from the myrtle family), originally from tropical America, sometimes also called guava, is much less common in home floriculture. Its leaves are very valuable: per 100 g there are 12 g of protein, 8.8 - fat,8 - total carbohydrates, 16 - fiber, 7.7 - ash, 1.3 calcium and 0.16 phosphorus.

Until now, the plant has been used as an effective remedy for diabetes. For this, fresh leaves (9 g) are used daily in raw form or an infusion is made from them, which is consumed in the form of tea. This infusion has a positive effect both in the initial stages and in the case of moderate diabetes. The glucose content in blood and urine decreases markedly. The tool can also be used to prevent diabetes in people prone to diabetes.

For the sake of fairness, we note that in the reference book "Plants for Us" (1996), recommended as a handbook for students of the St. Petersburg Chemical-Pharmaceutical Institute, for some reason there are no recommendations on the use of these plants for the treatment of patients with diabetes.

In addition, experts from many countries around the world are striving to find natural compounds that could replace sugar and would be safe for the human body. Among such plants, while the "palm" is held by "honey grass" - stevia (leaves and twigs), the sweetness of which is due to the presence in its organs of the diterpene glycoside "steviose". This glycoside does not belong to carbohydrates; it is almost 300 times sweeter than sucrose. You tear off a piece of leaf and put it in your mouth - and immediately you feel a sugary-sweet taste, because these leaves are 20-50 times sweeter than sugar.

The content of steviose in different parts of the plant varies: in dry stems - 2-3%, in dry leaves - 8-10%. The sweetener stevia is especially important for diabetics. By the way, it will not hurt to use it also for healthy people. Boxes with dried and chopped stevia leaves sometimes appear on sale. They can be kept in cellophane bags. These leaves can be used alone or mixed with tea (1: 1). You can add oregano, mint, St. John's wort, and other herbs to stevia, infusing the mixture for half an hour. Pure tea leaves are used for making coffee, compotes, for pickling and pickling …
