I have been gardening since a young age. Over the years, she has experienced all the weaknesses typical of gardeners.

Like most beginners, I wanted to have everything that grows, blooms beautifully and bears fruit. In difficult years, she grew a lot of vegetables and fruit and berry crops, made all possible preparations. I tried a lot of recipes. Tastes, hobbies, needs and opportunities gradually changed. But there were always many flowers.

Hobbies for annuals were replaced by a passion for perennial flowers. She grew everything that could be purchased in stores, nurseries, from friends. She also acquired many "overseas" plants. The site was full of colors. A collection of peonies, lilies, daylilies, roses, host, catchments, clematis and many other plants has appeared. And in this I am not alone.

Most gardeners behaved this way when they first received modest plots of land. The desire to have all the most useful and beautiful seized the beginner gardeners. Over time, the passions of the owners of this abundance calmed down, life became easier. You can also refuse something.

Now fewer vegetables are grown, more flowers. All this had to be experienced, rethought, so that the vegetable beds were occupied with flowers.

The abundance of flowers is beautiful, but it does not always add charm to the site, even if they are combined into certain compositions. I prefer group plantings, curtains, arrays of uniform flowers.

Groups are the most commonly used type of planting from especially decorative flower crops. The size of the group, the height and the number of plants in it depend on where it is located. It occupies a certain area, the size of which is in direct proportion to the size of the site.

Plants of various shapes, colors and textures can be used for group plantings. And there is no need to run after "foreign guests". Our traditional domestic varieties of phlox, peonies, daylilies, lilies, irises, asters and other flowers are not inferior to them in originality, and are often even superior in quality.

To create groups, plants should be chosen that can exist in specific conditions, since they are the basis of their resistance. For early flowering and prolongation of its terms, as well as to increase decorativeness, annuals and biennials are sometimes planted in groups (viols, daisies with leaves like light rain and graceful white, pink and red flowers. Groups of identical plants create spectacular spots against the background of the lawn, next to with cobbled wooden paths under the trees, which often form a single whole with the bushes in the background.

The distance between plants in a group depends on their type and size, but in any case, they should not be planted very densely, since, as they grow, they oppress each other and bloom poorly. Their aggressiveness is also taken into account.

Tall plants with large leaves are planted in 1-3 pieces. per 1m² (peony, delphinium, basil, rhododendron), medium height - 5-10 pcs. (iris, phlox, perennial aster, daylily, aquilegia), low - 20-25 pcs. (primroses, turf phlox, iberis, tulip, daffodil, scilla, poultry).

Curtains are usually created from one type or variety of flowers, any bulbous or plants with decorative leaves (hosta, rogersia, ferns, filipendula, lily of the valley, reygras, ornamental perennial grasses).

Group plantings of astilbe, dahlias, irises, daylilies, lilies, primroses, aquilegia, asters, kupin, periwinkle and many other beautifully flowering herbaceous plants are always expressive.

Ephemeroids are good in group plantings - muscari, endymions, corydalis and other bulbous. Their ability to actively grow, grow, form dense clumps requires constant monitoring of the size of the occupied area.

Groups can be simple, created from one species or variety, and consisting of two or three or more species and varieties blooming at the same time or at different times. Any plants are suitable for simple groups.

Groups of tall plants are planted at a distance from the paths, and of low or especially beautiful flowers - near the paths so that they are accessible for viewing.

Complex groups can consist of plants of the same species, but of different varieties (tulips, phlox, peonies, irises) or from different species (lupine, rudbeckia, nazabudka, etc.). It is beautiful, for example, when in a group the yellow viols in the foreground turn into bluish tones of early blue and blue dwarf or Siberian irises.

In a group, it is possible to combine both harmonious and contrasting in color and shape combination of plants with simultaneous and non-simultaneous flowering. White daffodils and next to bright red tulips, white peach-leaved bells and red phlox, blue or purple delphinium and next to yellow marigolds or orange calendula, purple perennial asters and golden solidago panicles.

Mixed groups are formed from two types of plants planted alternately and flowering at different times. For example, tulips are planted between bushes of roses, peonies, irises.

Low-growing phloxes, muscari, scillas are planted in a group of lilies. Forget-me-nots look great between the tulips, between the bushes - crocuses, daffodils, woodlands, low multi-colored tulips, forget-me-nots, stonecrops. These groups bloom in early spring, while shrubs and tall perennials are still leafless.

One-color compositions of white, pink, blue, yellow or lilac flowers look great.

The hobby of gardeners nowadays for spectacular group plantings is not a new trend. This is a forgotten tradition in Russia. Such compositions were popular before. They created a deliberate splendor for the estates of the turn of the 18th-19th centuries.

Of course, it would be absurd to blindly reproduce the techniques of greening old estates on 6-10 acres. But ideas can be borrowed and implemented taking into account the specific conditions and requirements of today.

Group flower plantings have the shape of circles, squares, rectangles and, most often, irregular shapes. Anything that catches your eye and holds it in is the focal point. Such places include group plantings with their textural composition. Here, like nowhere else, you can show your invention, imagination and taste in accordance with the possibilities.

There are many options for group flower beds. One of them is an expressive clump of blue catnip, which is used as a color accent in contrast to the yellow flowers of the catchment or evening primrose. The yellow flowers emphasize the intensity of the cold tone of the catnip. The bright yellow color visually protrudes forward. The combination of colors and the location of the colors in the garden visually emphasizes the lush vegetation. The gentle white breath of gypsophila and the yellow spiers of Buzulnik Przewalski among the stones always soften the formal path or facade of the house.

The compositions use combinations of bright contrasting or pastel colors. For example, a pleasant combination of pink petunia and refined forms of white gypsophila or scented tobacco. The charm of the garden is created by large stones, boulders, near which hosts are planted with their unusually wonderful leaves.

How would you like this option? Against the background of a green hedge of honeysuckle or other ornamental shrubs, there is clematis, which does not grow upwards, it covers the boulder with a solid carpet, creating a hill of beautiful indigo flowers. A falaris or festuca jacket sways alongside it.

Instead of ornamental grasses, there can be pink geraniums, yellow-orange marigolds, calendula or yellow daylilies.

Any planting in the garden will be more attractive if you select plants that match each other and their growing conditions. If you leave out the needs of the plants, then you will be disappointed.

They need to create favorable conditions for growth and development, provide optimal nutrition, take into account the specific type of soil, the degree of darkening and moisture, and then they will withstand drought, winter cold weeds without your special intervention. Agricultural practices should be differentiated depending on the species characteristics: cutting, setting supports, removing testes, etc.

When creating a garden design, first of all, the decorative effect, the size of the composition in height, the degree of growth, the color of the flowers and the flowering time are taken into account. Some plants in a group are planted densely to create a color spot that provides a long-lasting decorative effect. Tempting opportunities open up to provide a picturesque look to your summer cottage in combination of flowers with a wide range of fruit and berry plantings.

For a quick effect, you can use the creation of a bright color spot in containers, baskets, tubs, flowerpots. This is the ideal option for decorating a garden in the early years of its existence.

Tracks play an important role in design. Any garden begins with a path that points the way to its various places. Small country cottages are characterized by winding paths, taking into account the relief and structures. Pebbles, slag, crushed stone, simple field stones are traditionally used for walking paths. Flowers look harmonious next to such coatings. The author offers options for creating a garden using group flower beds (Fig. 1 and Fig. 2) near the paths.

The best and shortest way to create a unique garden design is to improve the conditions for growing plants, choosing plants adapted to the appropriate conditions. If you don’t like something in your garden, don’t worry and don’t be afraid - redo, rebuild, change or transplant.

You can safely repaint your garden painting with a shovel or scoop to enhance the composition. Regardless of when the plants are growing, in spring or autumn, many are dug up and replanted while they are visible so as not to lose them or clog the area. This operation is performed on a cool, damp day.

Healthy plants are transplanted to a new location, keeping their roots. Your shovel can be your best friend or your best design tool.

Go for it! I wish you success!
