Years passed - and again the conversation about new vegetative clones of Manchurian apricots

And here is a clone of Seraphim (see photo # 10).

And I have two trees at once with such strange fruits (weather conditions) - a transfer from generation to generation. What a weighty brick in Her Majesty's newly rebuilt Vegetative Hybridization building. And, therefore, I will not regret space for the second vegetative hybrid (see photo № 11).

And at this time, their "vegetative mother" (variety Seraphim - this was the first cutting from him, and the result that can be seen in photos No. 10 and 11 was obtained) decided to turn itself into an impossible bright red color (see. photo No. 12).

Look at how I reacted to this effect and you will understand everything.

Note: from this tree, and he is 12 years old, we removed 12 buckets of fruit. And this is not vegetative hybridization for you? Okay, let's move on.

But what you see in photo number 13 - how to call it - has not yet come up with.

Whether fruiting in the second year is "vegetative cloning" (see photo # 14 and another photo # 9) - even if this is still (there are still many publications ahead) will be a subject of controversy and conjecture.

But here's another invention made in passing. If the early maturity (in the second or third year) of grafted varieties of any species can be proved and explained simply (2-3 years old stock and an adult scion plus my tricks), then the early maturity of seedling, own-rooted apricots is an “unrealistic” planting of flower buds by 2, I associate the 3 and 4 years of the life of a seedling from a seed precisely with the invention, now consciously, of injections - vaccinations, even if temporary (whether they die or not is not the main thing).

And here are the changed fruits on a fast-growing Manchurian, grafted with a branch of the Bai variety, which has its own, native, branch below the vaccination. Rapprochement began, that is, early fruiting of both, the shrinking of the fruits of the "top", the enlargement of the fruits of the "bottom" and … general averaging of qualities (see photo No. 15).

So what if it is at the first stage (“reverse selection”) has no formal right to exist. But the Manchu fruit has lost its strong acidity.

Here is the question: will V. V. Bessmertnov is the author of the apricot variety “Gift of Heaven”, his brainchild (see photo # 16).

A year earlier, he would have recognized him by the rather large yellow-orange fruits. But now this riddle and the riddle of the reddening of fruits on dozens of trees I have not solved. And it torments me, but there is no one to ask - but so that they will answer exactly. But this answer will allow us to decorate our gardens with new varieties that have arisen literally "out of nothing."

And here is a rare Siberian guest called black apricot - Black Velvet variety (see photo # 17).

Let me remind you that all these photos were taken in 2013. By the way, by this time the harvest was almost completely crumbled, but even the delayed fruits did not turn black to the end. Maybe this is not vegetative hybridization yet, but he has already lost the status of "black".

You say: how black he is! And you will be right - the mentor (rootstock Manchurian with yellow fruits) makes its fruits all the brighter, and after several generations (through the method of “mentor layering” invented by Zhelezov) - it will turn yellow. Sad, friends, but informative.

And this apricot tree grows right across the road from a neighbor to whom I gave this wonderful tree in the form of a grafted seedling seven years ago. And I show it only because it was it (and two more of mine - they all grew up in relative isolation in a neighboring garden) that preserved the large-fruited apricot of the Royal variety from … France, which, it would seem, has nothing to do in Siberia (see photo No. 18).

But mine (all ten "Koroleviches") already have smaller fruits (see photo # 19).

You still do not understand, friends, into what jungle I will lead you now? So far with this example.

Three of my (from a neighbor's) apricots of the Royal variety retained their size, since they lived separately from their relatives from my garden.

Further, be careful: I am introducing my new term - "sexual selection of directly adult trees among themselves." My apricots in the old garden had sex (pollinated) with trees of other varieties, more often with smaller ones. As a result, the fruits were slightly crushed, I emphasize, not in the descendants, but on them, and the fruits on the smaller varieties Amur and Seraphim increased.

And in photo # 20, even if not on trees, but in buckets, I was able to show how the Manchurian mentor rootstock changed the Amur fruit in size, color and sugar content in one case and did not change it in another. Immediately and not realize without a bottle …, in the sense - without a tag, that in these two buckets the harvest of the same variety, and in both fully ripe fruits collected from the ground near different trees.

No one knows what will grow out of their bones in the future. And by the selection of scion branches from the tree, whence the left bucket with "improved" fruits - is it possible to consolidate new qualities? And does it need someone else besides us, lovers.

And why, when I write on such "borderline" topics with science, they write to me in response and write that for some reason professional scientists cannot engage in vegetative hybridization, they say, "… since vegetative hybridization does not exist …" !?

I guess scientists are doing something more important than vegetative hybridization, but why such secrecy?

And the years go by, and I, the most informed of amateurs (thousands of letters and phone calls), still don’t know who and where in academic circles keeps and develops vaccinations !? our main heritage of great ancestors and contemporaries is the best varieties of fruit crops for cold Russia. Or is nobody doing it?

And will I ever get an answer - during my lifetime and during the lifetime of the varieties still available?
