Remontant raspberry varieties

To obtain high and stable yields of berries, the selection of varieties plays an important role. The entire Russian assortment of remontant raspberries, included in the state register of breeding achievements, was created at the Kokinsky base of the All-Russian Selection and Technological Institute of Horticulture and Nursery (VSTISP) in the Bryansk region under the leadership of Academician of the Russian Academy of Agricultural Sciences, an outstanding breeder with a world name - Ivan Vasilyevich Kazakov.

In fact, the Kokinsky stronghold is the "crimson capital of Russia", where a strong scientific school has been created, including doctors and candidates of agricultural science. Since the 70s of the last century, more than 20 star varieties of remontant raspberries have been created here. Each variety is the property of the nation! Here, on six hectares of the breeding site, the world's largest hybrid stock of remontant raspberries has been created, where more than 50 thousand seedlings are processed annually. Here, Academician of the Russian Academy of Agricultural Sciences I. V. Kazakov, together with his team, went on to create remontant varieties of the interspecific type, some of them are capable of producing on annual shoots up to 15-20 tons of berries per hectare, which exceeds the average potato yield in the fields of the Bryansk region by one and a half to two times.

Over the past decade, unique varieties of a new generation have been created here.

Below is a description of the

main varieties of remontant raspberries.

Apricot

A repaired raspberry variety with an original golden-apricot color of dessert flavor berries with a delicate "raspberry" aroma, tender, juicy pulp, with small, firmly adhered drupes, well separated from the fruit.

Berries are medium, weighing 3-3.5 g, blunt-conical, suitable for fresh consumption and for all types of processing, especially for making amber-golden jam, little transportable.

The productivity of the variety is up to 1.5-2.5 kg per bush, ripening begins in the first decade of August, fruiting continues until frost. The potential yield of the variety is realized by 65-75%.

The bush is medium-sized (1.3-1.6 m), slightly spreading.

The authors of the variety are Academician of RAASKHNIL I. V. Kazakov and Dr. Selkhoznauk S. N. Evdokimenko.

This variety became widespread for the original color of the berries, their high quality, and high yield. The disadvantage is tender, poorly transportable berries.

Recommended for the Central and Central Black Earth regions of Russia. It is also grown in home gardening in other regions.

Augustine

Another remontant variety of raspberries by the same authors. Forms beautiful bright red rounded-conical berries with homogeneous, tightly linked drupes. Medium-sized fruits (average weight 3-3.5 g, maximum - up to 7 g). The berries are dense, transportable, well separated from the fruit, sweet and sour taste with tender, juicy pulp. The yield from one bush is 1.2-1.7 kg, the berries begin to ripen a little later than other varieties. The potential yield of this variety is realized by 60-70%.

The bush is medium-sized, rather compact, the shoot-forming ability is average (5-6 replacement shoots). Shoots are upright, thin and medium, green with a waxy coating, prickly in the lower part of the stem, the fruiting zone is half their length.

The disadvantage of the variety is the extended flowering and fruiting period.

Recommended for the Central and Central Black Earth regions of Russia.

August miracle

One of the best varieties of remontant type raspberries, obtained at the Kokinsky support point by Academician I. V. Kazakov and Dr. Selkhoznauk S. N. Evdokimenko.

Due to its unique plasticity, it is gaining increasing popularity throughout Russia in the Central Black Earth, Non-Black Earth regions, Siberia and the Urals. An early ripening variety. In the conditions of central Russia, the first ripe berries appear in late July - early August. Ripening is extended. The yield per bush is 2-3 kg, with good care - up to 4 kg.

The berries are red, aligned. Weighing up to 7 g (maximum - up to 10 g), elongated-conical shape, excellent taste with a delicate aroma, dense, transportable, well removed from the fruit plant, retained for a long time on the bushes.

The bush is wide, compact, consisting of 7-8 erect shoots. Height - up to 1.8-2 m. An autumn bush of this raspberry with purple shoots and crimson leaves decorates the site.

Advantages of the Augustow Miracle variety: high yield, decorative bush, resistance to pests and diseases, the formation of a sufficient number of root suckers, which is convenient for breeding the variety.

Indian Summer-2

One of the best varieties of remontant raspberries, obtained in 1990 at the Kokinsky support point by I. V. Kazakov and S. N. Evdokimenko from crossing the varieties Ott Bliz and Indian Summer.

The main advantages of this variety are the very early onset of ripening of berries, in central Russia - in early August, and in a warmer summer - even at the end of July. This allows the variety to reach its full yield potential. Its fruiting ends approximately in the second decade of September, while the yield from one bush reaches 1.5-2 kg with the usual care, and with a high level of agricultural technology - up to 3 kg per bush.

The berries are medium-sized (3-3.5 g), broadly blunt-conical, ruby-colored, sour-sweet, with tender juicy pulp, well separated from the fruit.

The bush is medium-sized (1.2-1.6 m), slightly spreading, the shoot-producing ability is moderate (4-5 replacement shoots). Shoots are erect, strongly branching, not lodging under the weight of the harvest, thick and medium, at first green, and by autumn they are bright purple, with a waxy coating, prickly along the entire length of the shoot. The fruiting zone is 2/3 of their length.

The advantages of this variety include high resistance to diseases and pests, the ability to grow on any type of soil, good taste of berries, almost complete ripening of the crop before the onset of autumn frosts.

Disadvantages: strong spine of the shoots, complicating the care of the plantings.

Recommended for regions of Russia suitable for raspberry cultivation.

Brilliant

One of the best varieties of remontant raspberries for low-cost and environmentally friendly cultivation technology with annual removal of the aerial part after fruiting.

A distinctive feature of this variety is the complete absence of thorns on the shoots and the characteristic strong brilliant shine of the berries. The berries are large (average weight 4-4.5 g, sometimes up to 7.2 g, in the first collections - up to 12 g), conical shape, ruby color, well separated from the fruit-bearing, transportable, after ripening they can hang on the bush for a long time without decay and decrease in quality indicators.

The taste of berries is sweet and sour, dessert, the pulp is dense. The beginning of ripening is the second decade of August, fruiting is extended. Before the onset of autumn frosts, 80-90% of the potential harvest ripens. Fruit branches are long, have up to 2-3 orders of branching and a high load of generative organs. High productivity - up to 3 kg from one bush.

The bush is medium-sized - up to 1.5 m tall, spreading, forms up to 5-6 shoots of replacement and 1-3 shoots. Shoots are of medium thickness, purple with a strong waxy coating, medium drooping; the fruiting zone is more than half of their length. A characteristic feature of the shoots is their weak leafiness, which makes the bush and the crop open and elegant. The disadvantage of the variety is the lodging of the shoots under the weight of the harvest and the need to tie them to the trellis.

The variety was recognized for its abundant fruiting, attractive color, high quality indicators of berries and decorative appearance of the bush. Recommended for cultivation in the Central, Central Black Earth and North Caucasus regions. According to our data, he showed himself excellently in the North-West and other regions of Russia.

Bryansk miracle

A high-yielding, large-fruited variety of remontant raspberries, one of the best red-fruited promising varieties, bred by Academician of RAASKHNIL I. V. Kazakov and Dr. Selhoznauk S. N. Evdokimenko.

The berries of this variety are of a beautiful elongated-conical shape (chiseled), very large (average weight 5-6 g, maximum - 11 g), red in color, dense. They are well separated from the fruit, have a very good taste and aroma, juicy pulp, suitable mainly for fresh consumption. According to the ripening period, the variety belongs to the early varieties, the berries begin to ripen in early August, fruiting is long.

The yield is high, in the conditions of the Central region of Russia it is 2.5-3 kg of berries per bush, fruiting with a high percentage of ripe berries. The potential yield is realized by 70-90% before autumn frosts.

The bush is medium-sized, open, which prevents berries from rotting in wet weather. The shoots are drooping, thin and medium, well branching, fruiting takes more than 2/3 of their length, so they bend under the weight of the harvest and, as a rule, need trellis. Shoot-forming ability is average (3-5 replacement shoots), few root suckers are formed - up to 2-4 suckers per bush, which makes it difficult to reproduce this valuable variety.

Recommended for the Central and Central Black Earth regions; in many other regions of Russia it is grown in home gardening.

Hercules

This outstanding variety of remontant raspberry was obtained by Academician of RAASKHNIL I. V. Kazakov and Dr. Selkhoznauk S. N. Evdokimenko. Since 1996, the Hercules variety has conquered almost all areas of raspberry cultivation in Russia and has stepped far beyond its borders.

Differs in very large berries (average weight 5-6 g, maximum - 10-12 g), truncated-conical shape, rich ruby color. The berries are dense, transportable, sweet and sour refreshing taste, well separated from the fruit, hang on the bush for a long time without decaying after ripening, suitable for all types of processing, especially good for freezing.

The yield is high and stable - over 3 kg per bush. The beginning of berry ripening is the first decade of August, fruiting continues until frost, the potential yield is realized by 60-80%.

The bush is medium-sized, slightly spreading, the shoot-forming ability is low (3-4 replacement shoots). Shoots are strong, erect, do not need a trellis, the fruiting zone is half their length.

Unlike many other varieties of remontant raspberries, Hercules gives a sufficiently large number of root suckers, which simplifies its reproduction.

Advantages of the variety: very large beautiful berries, stable high yield, upright bush habit, resistance to major diseases and pests, successful reproduction.

Disadvantages: weak shoot-producing ability (formation of replacement shoots in the bush), prolonged fruiting period, prickly shoots.

This variety has already conquered the European part of Russia, Belarus, Siberia, the Urals, Kamchatka, Primorsky Krai, Sakhalin. It is grown in almost all regions of Russia.
