The leaves of this rhododendron are leathery, elliptical, up to 5 cm long and 2.5 cm wide, dark green above, lighter below, covered with scale-like glands, have a resinous odor; hibernate rolled up in a tube. In spring, before flowering and blooming of young leaves, they fall off. Flowers 4-6 cm in diameter, funnel-bell-shaped, located at the ends of the shoots, 1-4 pieces.

The Sikhotin rhododendron has early, medium and late flowering forms. Flowers of the first form open in early May, they are light lilac-pink in color; in the second form, flowers open in the middle of this month, they are pink-purple, and in the third form, at the end of May, they have a maroon color. In addition, flowers in plants of various shapes can also be light pink, bright purple, purple and dark purple. In nature, there are bushes with double flowers.

Sikhotinsky rhododendron usually blooms for 2-4 weeks. In warm autumn, it can bloom again, but not so abundantly. The fruit is a capsule up to 1.5 cm long, the seeds ripen in September - October. In the Northwest, this rhododendron is quite winter-hardy, but individual flowers can be affected by spring frosts.

He prefers slightly acidic soils. Drought, disease and pest resistant. It tolerates partial shade well, can grow under the crowns of openwork trees, but is not afraid of sunny places. Poorly tolerates gas pollution and dust. The Sikhotin rhododendron is very decorative. It can be grown as a specimen (singly), in biogroups, and used for landscaping rocky areas.
