Nursery near Pushkin
Alternative to a pig in a poke
Near the town of Pushkin, in the nursery of the research and production center LLC "Agrotechnology", high-quality seedlings of zoned varieties are grown.
In the nursery near Pushkin, the summer was delayed. In mid-October, roses bloomed here and raspberries were ripe. The heavy berries could hardly stick to the thin green twigs and asked to be taken in the mouth. The owner of the garden, Alexander Davlyatov, "scooped up" their handfuls and treated the guests.
In a crimson paradise
The sweet berry in the nursery ripens in autumn, because the remontant raspberry from the collection of the Bryansk raspberry breeder Kazakov grows here. His achievements, like the rest of the domestic Michurins, are collected on their hectares by Alexander Davlyatov and his wife Tatyana Alekseeva, and scientific consultant Galina Aleksandrova, candidate of agricultural science, St. Petersburg breeder helps them in this. The famous strawberry Galina Dmitrievna knows a lot about raspberries. She created several of her new varieties. Our magazine told about Kazakov's raspberries in detail, and now there is an opportunity to see and taste it. “Raspberry remontantnaya bears fruit on a one-year growth, - says Galina Dmitrievna. - The crop was removed, the shoots were mowed, and next year new ones will grow, and, imagine, no care. With the onset of frost, the raspberries are cut off, mulch the soil and forget."
We go and taste the varieties. Here is Hercules. Its berries weigh 6 to 10 grams. The yellow-fruited raspberry was named Apricot, and this one was called Indian Summer. They say that Kazakov brought out novelties the size of a matchbox. So it's time to go to Bryansk for seedlings for breeding in the nursery. There are varieties in the raspberry bred by Galina Aleksandrova - Yellow dessert - it grows in the usual way, but very sweet. Vega, also traditionally growing, has berries reaching a length of 4 cm. This summer this raspberry bore abundant fruit - the bushes were bursting.
Behold the root, gardener
The nursery of the research and production center LLC "Agrotechnology" was born together with the millennium to make us, amateur gardeners, happy with pure-bred, high-quality seedlings of the best fruit and berry plants of domestic selection, zoned in our climatic zone. To solve this extremely difficult task, Alexander Davlyatov and Tatyana Alekseeva rented 30 hectares of land from the city and created a scientific base on them - a nursery. Here they bring varieties and novelties of the country's leading breeders, test them in local climatic conditions, breed them and offer them to gardeners of the Northwest. They have apple varieties from the Oryol Academy, pears from the Yuzhnouralsk Research Institute of Horticulture and Potato Growing, raspberries from the Bryansk Agricultural Academy, honeysuckle from the selection of Maria Plekhanova from VIR,black currant - from VIR breeder Ekaterina Volodina, strawberry - from Galina Dmitrievna Alexandrova.
There are Swedish varieties and other foreign ones; out of a hundred - two or three acceptable in our area. The family was prompted to such a feat by the current situation, when gardeners-amateurs are offered a "pig in a poke" everywhere. “It's a shame that people spend money, energy, hopes unknown for what, - says Alexander. - Dealers bring planting material from the Baltic States, Ukraine, Moldova and issue it as a local zoned variety. We set a task - to create an alternative to this scam, to give our gardeners an opportunity receive pure-quality, high-quality planting material for all crops. " Now about 70 varieties of apple trees, a dozen varieties of pears, cherries, plums are propagated in the nursery - new items - Michurin varieties; cherry plum, cherry - Leningrad varieties. From berry crops - strawberries, raspberries, gooseberries, currants, bush honeysuckle. Began to plant here and decorative crops.
Planting material is propagated in the nursery by winter cuttings. This method gives crops good growth per season and faster fruiting. Seedlings are grown from the seeds purchased in Rosovoschplodtorg - rootstock material. The rootstocks are partially purchased in the same place as the seeds. Cuttings are harvested at the Luga variety section - there is a very rich collection of zoned and promising varieties. Cuttings of the best varieties, buried, are stored in a climate chamber in winter. The vaccination is done by improved copulation. This is the most difficult of manual vaccinations, but the rootstock with scion takes root better. From the end of November to June, the climate chamber is maintained at zero temperature and the required humidity.
Tatyana Fedorovna, wife of Alexander Dzhumaevich, is a great specialist in vaccinations. During the winter, she grafts up to 15 thousand seedlings with almost one hundred percent survival rate. She vaccinates 6-10 hours daily. It is a painstaking business, requiring, in addition to skills, intuition and dedication. You cannot work with living material without a soul. Tatyana has a light hand, whatever she touches, everything grows magnificently. The grafted plants are planted in containers with a peat-manure mixture, in which they grow. A six-year-old fruiting tree is sold in a container. The grower tastes an apple, a pear and buys what he likes.
This is a closed root system. It is clearly visible through the package. When buying, you need to know that local seedlings cannot grow more than 90 cm per season. "And when they sell a seedling whose trunk diameter is 5 cm, and the root system fits into a liter jar, you should know that this is a scam," says Alexander Dzhumaevich. We grow fruit seedlings with a closed root system - it is convenient for transportation and planting at any time. " By the fall of Tatyana's children, they grew up and got stronger. They ate well, and their large leaves tell us about it. All seedlings grow in personal containers, standing on the ground in fenced off compartments. To make it easier to navigate the varieties, each seedling is marked with an aluminum tag with the corresponding number. "Here are one-year-old pears," the owner shows, "and these are local varieties of cherries. Look, what bursty leaves it has. "All plants of the same variety are like twins, of the same height, flat - the State Seminar Inspection will not pick on - the plants comply with the standard.
Alexander kneads black soil in his hand, and the hand remains clean. This indicates the quality of the soil. It is prepared carefully - sifted, mixed in the right proportions, and you get real black soil. Galina Dmitrievna accidentally pulled a first-year honeysuckle out of the ground, but she was not upset - with such powerful roots and in such soil, it will easily take root. But the miracle pear - on one tree - different branches with different leaves - it turns out that three different varieties were planted. Alexander tells about miracles: "We take a Chelyabinsk pear and graft it on the wild, we get one taste. We take our varieties - we graft it. Grafted on Lada - one taste. Grafted on Chizhovskaya - another taste. The root is one, the insert is different, and the stalk is the third. No perfection. With the insertion method, you can create a new variety, and you can achieve the desired taste."
Strawberry glades of Galina Alexandrova
Galina Dmitrievna Aleksandrova devoted most of her life to her beloved business - the creation of new varieties. I started with cherries and plums, then switched to strawberries with raspberries and cannot tear myself away from them. It takes 12 years to create one strawberry variety. In total, she bred 8 varieties. Before starting to create a variety, the breeder assembles a collection. Galina Dmitrievna at the Leningrad fruit and vegetable experimental station, where she worked for 30 years, had about 120 varieties of strawberries, including 50 foreign ones. When choosing parental varieties for crossing, varieties with certain characteristics are selected: large-fruited, taste, resistance to pests, etc. And, depending on the purpose, domestic and foreign varieties are taken, because distant crossing gives a good result. Galina Dmitrievna created her varieties on the basis of the Festivalnaya variety with the involvement of the American Holiday variety, the Dutch ones - Vola, Gorela. The resulting hybrids combine the best maternal and paternal qualities. Last season, one and a half to two kilograms of berries were harvested from one bush of the varieties of wild strawberries, Divnaya, Sudarushka, Tsarskoye Selo, from one bush. Now Galina Dmitrievna is experimenting on her garden plot, and the result is transferred to the plantation in the nursery. Alexander Davlyatov encouraged her to create in his beds, and they get excellent planting material for local gardeners. Galina Dmitrievna says: "We have more than a dozen varieties of strawberries, of which zoned ones: Magician, Krasavitsa, Sudarushka, Divnaya - all have passed the variety trials. They are in great demand." Work on the creation of new varieties continues. Gardeners have already tasted the Favorite and are tearing it off with their hands. Onega is undergoing variety trials. New products - Gourmet - late, sweet, Rada - early. This year, a mother plant of strawberries from a dozen varieties was laid. The main criteria in breeding varieties are large-fruited, taste, winter hardiness, resistance to diseases and pests. A very promising way to grow strawberries is on black foil. It is better to take the Finnish one - it withstands four years, as long as it takes before replacing the landings. The whiskers are cut off with root buds, and they easily take root. The soil under the film warms up, moisture remains, there are no weeds, strawberry ripening is accelerating, and its fruits become brightly colored.
And no chemistry
All fruit and berry crops, except strawberries, according to Alexander Dzhumaevich, can be planted until the end of October and even in November, if it is warm. The leaf falls off and the root system grows. Now is the most favorable time for her - there is enough warmth and moisture. The root zone must be mulched. Peat, sawdust, foliage, rotting pine bark are suitable for this. The Finns consider the bark of fruit plants to be the best mulching material.
The nursery does not use chemistry. Top dressing is done mainly through the leaves. This is very important for cuttings. So that they do not dry out after inoculation, they must be fed through the bark, cut, leaves with nitrogen-containing substances. Tobacco dust is good for this. It contains 35% of pure nitrogen in free form, which is assimilated by plants. It is used in a certain concentration: 300 g of tobacco are soaked and boiled in two liters of water, then the solution is diluted in 20 liters of water. After that, you can spray the plants.
In the nursery, feeding is carried out using a fog plant. It forms water dust, saturated with nitrogen, which accelerates plant growth, and at the same time protects against pests. Leaves, with which the soil is mulched, so as not to introduce infection, you need to sprinkle with urea - 700 g per 10 liters of water - dissolve and spray the leaves and soil.
There is nothing superfluous in the garden and everything can be used for fertilization or protection. If blooming chamomiles are collected in bouquets and dried, you get an effective remedy against garden ants - pyrethrum, contained in pollen. It is enough to shake a dry bouquet over the insects' habitat, and they will immediately leave. Concentrated decoction of potato tops is effective against leaf-eating. Alexander advises to mow the whitewash and put it under the plants - this will provide them with an acceleration of growth up to 30-40%.
Where to look for seedlings?
It should be borne in mind that the brand "Agrotechnology" is used by unscrupulous second-hand dealers, giving out who knows what kind of seedlings from the nursery with a good name. The worst thing is that by doing this they discredit elite varieties. "Agrotechnology" does not in principle participate in exhibitions and fairs, and "AgroRus" is no exception, where, according to Alexander Dzhumaevich, varieties of unknown origin can also be found. We tried to work with the "Russian Village", but when they saw a 700% mark-up on their seedlings, they immediately refused. “We work without raising our heads so that people have the opportunity to buy excellent planting material at an affordable price, and they raise the price to the skies there!” Alexander is indignant. " In order not to be deceived, know: you can buy branded seedlings in the nursery itself,in the Pushkin shops "Rostok" and "Mega-Center", as well as in the VIRovsky store on St. Isaac's Square. Nursery "Agrotechnology" is considered the best in terms of material quality and purity. After all, the material is grown here according to all the rules of nursery.
You can also find high-quality planting material by visiting the page of nurseries of the Leningrad region on our website and choose the nearest nursery to you on the map.
When choosing planting material, you should pay special attention to the diameter of the rosettes ( no more than 1.5 cm ) and the length of the roots ( not less than 5 cm ). The best seedlings are annuals with 3-5 leaves per socket. It is advisable to choose plants without peduncles, if any, they must be removed in order to facilitate the plant's survival. The sooner you plant strawberries, the better they will take root and the faster the mustache will appear
Raspberries belong to real gourmets, and they will definitely not give good harvests on poor soil. Therefore, the preparation of the soil before planting raspberries must be treated with all attention. There are several options here. According to official agronomic data, trenches are prepared ( about 30-35 cm wide and 25-30 cm deep ) or planting pits ( 50x50 cm ), which are filled with organic fertilizers. For 1 m of such a trench, a couple of buckets of semi-rotted
