Harvesting the crops, sow the beds again
July is the most fertile month for the gardener, when the land begins to repay for labor with all its maternal generosity. The first cucumbers, tomatoes and peppers ripen. This is also a month of abundance of all kinds of greens: lettuce, onions, parsley, dill, basil, fennel, spinach, beets, radishes, carrots, borage, etc. The harvest of early potatoes is ripening.
Fortunately, despite the constant frost forecasts that the "Hydrometeocenter" promised us, in June they passed the Leningrad Region. The popular forecast came true - after the Christian holiday of the Trinity there are no frosts.
Nevertheless, the main harvest of the main crops - potatoes, cabbage, beets, carrots, cucumbers, tomatoes and peppers, apples - is ahead, we still have to fight for it - work.

Among the main works in the garden in July - watering and feeding. It is better to water the plants in the evening or in the morning, when the sun does not bake, in clear weather. This must be done carefully, at the root, so that the earth is saturated with moisture to a depth of 30-40 cm. After watering, the soil in the garden is loosened.
Water for irrigation of heat-loving crops (cucumbers, peppers, tomatoes) should have a temperature of + 22-24 ° C. In hot dry weather, on sandy and sandy loam soils, vegetables are watered every 2-3 days at the rate of one and a half to two buckets per 1 m², and on loamy humus soils in 4-6 days, two to three buckets per 1 m². Water must penetrate to the depth of the root layer, that is, 10-15 cm.
Every culture has its own needs. So, potatoes need water most of all during flowering. Cucumbers consume a lot of moisture during the period of maximum leaf growth and mass fruiting. Cabbage is especially sensitive to a lack of moisture in the early planting field and during the period of active growth and formation of the head of cabbage. But onions and garlic during the period of tying the heads, on the contrary, need slightly dried soil, so watering during this period is stopped.

Table beets and carrots easily tolerate short-term drought, but good moisture during the period of filling the root crop has a beneficial effect on the harvest. Tomatoes require more moisture as they bear fruit. With a lack of moisture in the soil, pepper and eggplant part of the buds and ovaries fall off. The same happens at low air humidity (it should be 60-70%). These crops especially need watering during the fruiting period.
During the growing season, it is advisable to feed vegetable and fruit plants three times. As a liquid top dressing, you can use a mullein solution, slurry, from mineral fertilizers - ekofosku, azofosku, nitrophosku.
Plants respond well to ash - 100 g of ash per bucket of water. Cover the cauliflower with broken leaves to keep the boiling white heads.
Sowing of winter radish is carried out this month. This is due to the fact that winter radish, which is a cold-resistant plant, produces good root crops when sown in summer. The fact is that she is very sensitive to the length of the day. That is why, during spring sowing, when the day is continuously growing in our Leningrad region, radish leaves develop very quickly to the detriment of the growth of root crops, and in the presence of the sum of active temperatures, it can completely (100%) give flowering plants.
In addition to the next sowing of green crops: dill, lettuce, spinach, onions for feathers, radishes, in July it is time to sow perennial vegetables: sorrel, rhubarb, perennial onions.
The gardener's constant concern is the protection of plants from pests and diseases. This season there is an outbreak of fungal diseases - powdery mildew, rust, leaf, stem and root rot. The best remedies for these diseases are copper preparations: Bordeaux mixture, copper oxychloride, hom and oxychom, copper-soap suspension. During the berry collection period, these treatments should be stopped, only biological products can be used: infusion of mullein and wood ash, phytosporin, extrasol, Barrier, Zaslon, etc.
The activity of pests is also observed. Those that can completely destroy your crop include all types of aphids, onion, cabbage and carrot flies, all types of butterflies. Do not forget that you can use pesticides only 30-40 days before harvesting. When the harvest ripens, treatments against pests can be carried out only with herbal preparations containing substances that are poisonous for pests and not dangerous for humans (tops of tomatoes, potatoes, tansy, chamomile, yarrow, onions, garlic, tobacco, etc.). Liquid soap (40 g per 10 l of water) is added to the infusion of these plants before spraying.
The real trouble this season is the strong infestation of all crops with weeds. If you miss the moment of weeding crops, the crop may die completely. The most reliable way to control weeds is hand weeding and regular (once a week and after rains) harrowing and loosening.

Autumn And Winter Worries Of The Beekeeper
An experienced beekeeper understands well that preparation for the new season does not begin in the spring, as it seems to a beginner, but practically from the moment when you decided to withdraw some of the honey harvested by bees for future use, with an eye to unfavorable honey harvest years. It turns out that already in the summer, during the most active period of the development of the bee colony, the beekeeper should foresee: how and how he can help her in case of unfavorable developme
