I told the readers about my experiments on strawberry plantations and in growing grapes. My next experiment was related to the cultivation of onions.

I always buy black onion seeds, sow them and grow my own set for planting next season. I read many times that you can get turnip onions from seeds in one season. Finally I decided to try this method myself.

I bought seeds of onion varieties Krasnaya Gorka and Kondor from NPO Sad i Ogorod, and also bought seeds of Centurion and Exhibition varieties. In March, she sowed all the seeds in seedling boxes. The seedlings did not appear very amicably, but in the end, all of them emerged.

In the fall, I prepared beds for onions, brought rotted manure into the soil, and in the spring I loosened them with a flat cutter, sprinkled with ash, spilled the soil with phytosporin to prevent diseases, and then with humates.

To speed up the warming up of the soil, I covered the ridges with black agrospan. All this was in April. By the beginning of May, the ground had already warmed up well - within a week its temperature was 10 … 20 ° C, so I planted onion seedlings, cutting small holes in the film, then watered the plantings.

Since the cherry blossoms and the first years of the onion fly were ahead, I installed arches over the beds and fixed the spunbond on them. In the next bed, in the same way, under a black agrospan, I planted a turnip of a family onion, and then also covered it with a spunbond. During the season, she watered the plantings, however, not often, since the summer was rainy, and the agrospan helped to preserve moisture and looseness of the soil. I fed the onions three times, sprinkled them with zircon once, and every 10 days with Zdorovy Sad and Ecoberin.

Three weeks before the ripening of the onion, I found onion peronosporosis in the beds of the neighbors, so I sprayed my plantings with a solution of ridomil-gold for the prevention of diseases and pollinated them with ash. The measures taken have protected my bow from diseases.

The family turnip onion was the first to ripen, I have it early, I chose the harvest on July 26. I dried it in the air and then laid it out in the attic. The size of the bulbs pleased me, they were much larger than when grown without a film. And on August 9, I was already choosing onions obtained from seeds. There was no limit to my surprise, because during the season I could not see the whole bulbs, and therefore I had no idea what size they were.

It turned out that they gained a mass of 600-680 grams, and about ten pieces reached 820-840 grams! These were bulbs of the Exibishen and Centurion varieties. Onion varieties Krasnaya Gorka and Condor have formed purple bulbs. They also pleased with their size, quality and taste, and weighed from 320 to 620 grams, although there were even larger specimens.

Agrospan freed me from weeding, loosening the soil, he protected the earth from drying out, kept warm. Onions grew very well in such conditions. The cover with spunbond protected the plantings from damage by the onion fly, and we did not have frosts that season. After harvesting the onions, I sowed white mustard as a siderat in these beds.

Winter garlic was also grown under mulching material using AVA fertilizer during planting. The heads grew large with large lobules - 4-5 in each. My winter garlic keeps very well, almost until the next harvest. In the July harvesting of cucumbers and tomatoes, I use this particular garlic of the last year's harvest. I did not notice any illnesses on it.
