Ornamental garden - decoration of your site

Flower garden with modules
Flower garden with modules

Unfortunately, vegetables and flowers on our sites, as a rule, are diametrically opposed concepts. However, many flowers can be used for cooking and many vegetables for decorative purposes. For example, tomatoes and potatoes imported from America were first planted in flower beds, and not in garden beds. Let's try to combine vegetables and flowers already this season, since most of them are annual, and the effect will be visible already in the year of sowing.

Do you want to be advanced - this square-nested

Even such a trivial landing pattern can be played in such a way that it turns out to be interesting. By dividing the bed into squares, stripes or staggered, it can be filled with vegetable and flower plants (Fig. 1 and 2).

For example, combining white and red cabbage, cabbage salad with marigolds, hot peppers with eggplant, squash with pumpkin, beets with calendula, etc. If you plant a lot of vegetable and flower crops of various colors in squares, you get a motley plant analogue of a patchwork quilt - a kind of phyto-patchwork.

Ordinary or checkerboard plantings can be surrounded by a border of other plants, for example, ordinary plantings of ornamental cabbage and marigolds, surrounded by chives. It will turn out very interesting (fig. 3).

A more modern option is to use modules made of wooden beams or boards for these purposes. They are held together to form a hollow square or rectangle. It is slightly buried in the ground and filled with a nutrient substrate. The resulting raised beds are easier to care for, and the plants feel better on them.

If such modules are placed side by side, leaving passages between them (they can be sprinkled with sand, gravel, chips), you get a whole garden. The modules can be left without partitions inside (to fill the entire space with one culture) or partitions can be made. If the latter are of different sizes, the regular character of the garden will acquire features of asymmetry (Fig. 3).

Plants can be planted not only in straight rows, but also in closed rows. In this case, you get a composition that resembles a carpet. Closed rows can be not only rectangular, but also rounded, oval, triangular, etc.

If you wish, you can play with radial symmetry, giving the landings a French flavor. For this, triangular or trapezoidal modules are placed centripetally. A more complex, labyrinth-like option is the use of modules that make up sectors of circles of different diameters.

And the modules can be shaped like a honeycomb, assemble a star from the modules, etc., as far as your imagination, time and golden man's hands are enough. Of course, the plans of the modules and the schemes for their placement on the site are first drawn up on paper.

Ah, cabbage is a feast for the eyes …

Well, the modules are ready, installed on the site, filled with a nutrient substrate. What can you plant in them? In the center of the composition with radial symmetry, a standard rose in a tub will look most harmoniously. Instead of it, you can use another standard tub plant - both deciduous and evergreen, indoor: fuchsia, laurel, olive, ficus, camellia, palm … But you can do with tall herbaceous specimens: delphinium - varieties F1 Aurora, Astolat, Blue lace, King Arthur, F1 Centurion, Black Knight and others; castor oil plant (however, do not forget about its poisonous properties), decorative sunflower - varieties Krasno Solnyshko, Leto, Russian size, F1 Florena, Black and white and others. A fountain whose height exceeds its diameter can also play the role of a connecting central vertical.phytolacca.
