Video: Ornamental Garden - Both Tasty And Beautiful
Ornamental garden - decoration of your site
Unfortunately, vegetables and flowers on our sites, as a rule, are diametrically opposed concepts. However, many flowers can be used for cooking and many vegetables for decorative purposes. For example, tomatoes and potatoes imported from America were first planted in flower beds, and not in garden beds. Let's try to combine vegetables and flowers already this season, since most of them are annual, and the effect will be visible already in the year of sowing.
Do you want to be advanced - this square-nested
Even such a trivial landing pattern can be played in such a way that it turns out to be interesting. By dividing the bed into squares, stripes or staggered, it can be filled with vegetable and flower plants (Fig. 1 and 2).
For example, combining white and red cabbage, cabbage salad with marigolds, hot peppers with eggplant, squash with pumpkin, beets with calendula, etc. If you plant a lot of vegetable and flower crops of various colors in squares, you get a motley plant analogue of a patchwork quilt - a kind of phyto-patchwork.
Ordinary or checkerboard plantings can be surrounded by a border of other plants, for example, ordinary plantings of ornamental cabbage and marigolds, surrounded by chives. It will turn out very interesting (fig. 3).
A more modern option is to use modules made of wooden beams or boards for these purposes. They are held together to form a hollow square or rectangle. It is slightly buried in the ground and filled with a nutrient substrate. The resulting raised beds are easier to care for, and the plants feel better on them.
If such modules are placed side by side, leaving passages between them (they can be sprinkled with sand, gravel, chips), you get a whole garden. The modules can be left without partitions inside (to fill the entire space with one culture) or partitions can be made. If the latter are of different sizes, the regular character of the garden will acquire features of asymmetry (Fig. 3).
Plants can be planted not only in straight rows, but also in closed rows. In this case, you get a composition that resembles a carpet. Closed rows can be not only rectangular, but also rounded, oval, triangular, etc.
If you wish, you can play with radial symmetry, giving the landings a French flavor. For this, triangular or trapezoidal modules are placed centripetally. A more complex, labyrinth-like option is the use of modules that make up sectors of circles of different diameters.
And the modules can be shaped like a honeycomb, assemble a star from the modules, etc., as far as your imagination, time and golden man's hands are enough. Of course, the plans of the modules and the schemes for their placement on the site are first drawn up on paper.
Ah, cabbage is a feast for the eyes …
Well, the modules are ready, installed on the site, filled with a nutrient substrate. What can you plant in them? In the center of the composition with radial symmetry, a standard rose in a tub will look most harmoniously. Instead of it, you can use another standard tub plant - both deciduous and evergreen, indoor: fuchsia, laurel, olive, ficus, camellia, palm … But you can do with tall herbaceous specimens: delphinium - varieties F1 Aurora, Astolat, Blue lace, King Arthur, F1 Centurion, Black Knight and others; castor oil plant (however, do not forget about its poisonous properties), decorative sunflower - varieties Krasno Solnyshko, Leto, Russian size, F1 Florena, Black and white and others. However, all sunflowers are so good that you can use not only decorative, but also the most ordinary ones.Mallow or stem rose can be used - Garland, Summer carnival, etc.), hibiscus - F1 Russian size, decorative millet F1 African Parple, corn - F1 Honey nectar, F1 Creamy nectar, Triple sweetness, decorative leaf variety F1 Variegated ribbon and others, amaranth - Valentine, Cherry velvet and others, phytolacca. And the central vertical can also be made from hanging dichondra or strawberry lashes, planted in containers located on the frame. A fountain whose height exceeds its diameter can also play the role of a connecting central vertical.phytolacca. The modules located on the ground can be planted with a wide variety of varieties and types of vegetable, spicy, essential oil, medicinal, ornamental plants. Let's take a closer look at some of them.
Numerous modern varieties differ in plant height, size, shape, color and taste of fruits, their number in clusters, and ripening times. Ripe colored fruits of tomatoes are very elegant. In the modules, you can combine varieties with the classic red color of fruits - Summer resident, Gina, Countryman, Giant, Perseus, Raketa, Shchelkovsky early and others; with varieties that have pink fruits - Pear pink, De Barao pink, Pink giant, yellow and orange fruits - Orange, Lemon giant, De Barao gold, F1 Kish-mish orange, F1 Date, Wonder of the world, black fruits - Black pear, Gypsy. The color of fruits of the Moscow delicacy striped variety is very unusual - bright yellow stripes and strokes on a red background.

The edible fruits of vegetable, strawberry and pineapple physalis are surrounded by an elegant cup. Even more elegant is the cup of a perennial physalis, or Franchet, but its fruits, alas, are inedible.
Several bushes will be appropriate in the module. Take a closer look at its powerful glossy dark green foliage and pretty flowers - white, pink or purple depending on the variety. Just do not let the Colorado potato beetles appear on the potatoes, which can instantly destroy all this beauty.
This is not a plant, but a whole poem: large, dense, elastic balls of white and red cabbage, loose, tender, light green ellipses of Chinese and Peking cabbage, miniature heads of Brussels sprouts, white, green, orange, purple delicious inflorescences of cauliflower and broccoli, wrinkled-wavy Savoyard leaves, naked kohlrabi stubs … And there are also numerous varieties of ornamental cabbage. I had a dream: to create a decorative vegetable garden on my site, on which vegetables, and spicy herbs, and salads and flowers would grow. But my husband did not take this venture seriously, considering it another whim. But this year a miracle happened: my husband gave me a ridge on which watermelons grew last year. I was happy to have the opportunity to realize my project, which had been nurtured for three years. And so I started to implement it. I really wanted this idea to give results
