The flora that surrounds us is truly unlimited. Even among vegetable crops, which are always under the close attention of gardeners, there are rare plants now and then. Anguria also belongs to them.
Anguria belongs to the pumpkin family. I grow two varieties of this annual vine.
Antilles cucumber (Kiwano) is a powerful herbaceous vine with many lateral shoots and dark green fruits that resemble hedgehogs with large fleshy thorns. The average weight of the fruit is 300 g, the average length is 12 cm. The fruits are extremely decorative and can be used to create original compositions and even as Christmas tree decorations. Anguria in your apartment can become an interesting part of the interior and serve as a living still life. The skin of the Antillean cucumber becomes dense over time, so it can be stored for a long time, at room temperature, at least until the New Year. During storage, the fruits acquire a bright yellow-orange color. At a young age, anguria fruits taste like cucumber, are used in salads, in pickling, etc.
Anguria Antilles is a highly branching vine with many shoots and can grow in width and height up to 5-6 m. To accelerate fruiting, the technique of chasing lateral shoots on the ovary can be applied.
This plant is dioecious, has pronounced flowers of male and female structure and needs pollination by insects or by hand. Seeds are round in shape and differ from cucumber seeds. The plant is quite thermophilic, does not tolerate frosts and prolonged cold snaps at a young age, and becomes cold-resistant in adulthood. Grown through seedlings. Seeds are planted in the soil at a temperature of + 15-20 ° C.
Anguria Antilles has long, climbing shoots and is best grown on trellises, although it is also grown in creeping form. Given its southern origin, at the latitude of the Moscow region, the largest yield of Antilles cucumber can be obtained when grown in a greenhouse.
It requires a soil well filled with manure or humus. Anguria Antilles is unusually fertile. You will need only 3-4 plants to plant an area of 10-12 m² and get several tens of kilograms of fruit.
The Syrian cucumber is an annual herbaceous vine with smaller fruits but also unusually prolific. It grows to 3-3.5 m, has many side shoots with a large number of light green fruits 7-8 cm long and weighing an average of 50 g with small thorns. Young cucumbers are tender and sweet, used for food as cucumbers, ornamental on bushes and on the table. The structure of the bushes is almost the same as that of the Antillean Anguria.
Syrian Anguria is an earlier ripening plant, begins bearing fruit in July and bears fruit before frost (Syrian Anguria was zoned by me in the climate of the Moscow region for 10 years). In adulthood, like Antillean Anguria, it is resistant to cold weather. It is weakly affected by insects. Seeds also need warm soil to germinate. It works well on trellises. The first time requires manual twisting of the whips on the ropes.
Anguria needs regular watering during fruiting, but at the same time it tolerates drought well, since its leaf blades are smaller than that of cucumbers, which inhibits the evaporation of moisture from the leaf.
Ready seedlings should be planted in the ground when the soil warms up to at least + 10 ° C. With proper care, anguria is a very grateful ornamental plant with a high yield. It is a real pleasure to grow it.
Carved leaves with many fruits peeking out are a real panorama of your success in growing vegetables.
Try to grow these plants and you.

The Main Things In The Garden, In The Flower Garden And In The Garden In August
Cold weather in spring and early June retarded the growth and development of all plants in the garden. In such weather, when the soil temperature drops to 12 degrees Celsius, the root system of plants does not work and, in order to maintain the growth point, they begin to take nutrients from the leaves, so the foliage turns yellow and falls off prematurely
