The very first vegetable crop that is sown at home for seedlings is celery root. It has the longest growing season - over 160 days.

And therefore, in order to get large root crops, sowing begins at the end of January - v. Before sowing, the seeds are washed from essential oils for 2-3 days, changing the water daily, after which they are dried to a loose state.

For crops, use dishes with a depth of 5-6 cm, which are filled with soil, leaving 2 cm to the top edge. The soil surface is leveled, sprayed with water. The seeds are very small, so they can be mixed with dry calcined sand in a ratio of about 1: 1 before sowing. They sow on the surface without covering them with earth - you need to pay attention to this moment. You do not need to sow the whole package at once, because there are enough seeds in it to plant a small field with celery.

It is better to count the number of seeds you need, with a margin for lunges, put the rest in the refrigerator. Then a packet of fresh seeds will last for 3 years. (When stored in room conditions, germination is lost after 2 years). Crops are covered with glass or film and must be placed in a warm place with a temperature of 25 ° C and above.

After about 5-7 days, the seeds hatch, that is, white seedlings appear on them - roots. After another 4-5 days, tiny green cotyledons will appear - these are already seedlings. If the seeds have not been washed and if the room is cold - the temperature is below 18 ° C, then the seedlings will appear later, it happens, after 30 or even 40 days. This often frightens the gardeners and they, without waiting for the shoots, in a panic, do repeated crops.

Seedlings must be transferred to the brightest place, for example, to a windowsill. Ventilate them daily by opening the glass or removing the film, first for 5 minutes, and then gradually increasing the time of "walking". By the time the first true sheet appears, the film must be removed completely. Prevent the soil from drying out. It is best to water tiny seedlings with a pipette. In a dry, hot room, seedlings can be sprayed with a spray bottle.

When the first real leaf appears, the seedlings dive, that is, they are transplanted. For root celery, it is better to plant each plant in its own container. For example, roll cigarettes 3-4 cm in diameter and 6-7 cm high from newspaper, fill them with soil. Here it is just convenient to use ready-made cassettes, which we talked about earlier. When transplanting, the root must be pinched by 1/3 - 1/4. The peculiarity of picking root celery is that the seedlings should not be buried, like in all other plants, but, on the contrary, leave a root 1 mm above the soil surface under the root collar.

Leafy celery and root parsley are sown in mid-March, while leafy parsley can be sown in late March-early April. Usually the later sown seedlings catch up with the earlier, because they get more heat and light. They sow in the same way as root celery, only leafy forms can be slightly deepened when diving and many plants can be dived into a common dish with a distance of 2-3 cm between them.

Leaf forms are planted in the ground in the first decade of May. There is no need to rush to plant celery root, because in the event of frost and prolonged cold weather, some of the plants may subsequently grow stale. Parsley and leaf celery are planted to such a depth so as not to fill up the growth point, and for root celery it is better to raise it above the soil level by at least 1 cm.
