Individual garden style

It doesn't matter what type of garden you want to create - a cool wooded shelter, scented flower beds of roses or other magnificent perennials, it will represent the most important part of the site, determine its design.

What you see in books, magazines attracts you with its special style, suggests a fundamental theme and design. At the same time, you invariably add something to your taste, thereby creating your own, unique, unique and inimitable garden.

Your home and surroundings may suggest a certain style, but the final choice is always yours. Even with a modest area of the site and small opportunities for its location, you will certainly create something of your own, personal. Add your own touch to the design. You can stick to one style or create a mixed one by combining elements of several styles. For example, a stone cottage in the Leningrad Region is more in line with a formal design resembling a parterre, but of a more modest size, with raised flower beds.

I propose a layout option for the site in front of the stone house. The geometric style of flower beds is especially interesting when the house is slightly higher than the area in front of the house. Floral and decorative design of rectilinear flower beds, their size, volume and sequence of flowering flowers, the use of small forms of architecture - everything should be in harmony with each other. A good knowledge of ornamental plants and a great artistic taste are required from the creator of the garden.

For example, I give a diagram (see Fig. 1) of landscaping a summer cottage, of course, not small, not six acres. The flower garden is built in the form of flower beds with straight sides. The flower beds are separated from each other by paths that converge at the cottage. Conventionally, each flower bed is 1-2-5 m2, and each side of a square or rectangle is 1-2-3 meters, depending on the size of the site. Since the flower garden is symmetrical, you should make sure that the sizes and shapes of the beds and corners are the same.

This is a fairly elegant and simple drawing, easily done in kind. He will always win over more complex ones. It is more convenient to plan the proposed gardening garden using a grid of squares made of cord pegged to the ground. This method will greatly facilitate the creation of a flower garden and paths. The width of paths in these gardens usually does not exceed 0.5-0.7 m. They must be firm and dry. They can be green, but it is better to cover them with broken brick, sand, paving slabs after removing the sod.

It is advisable to carry out excavation work on the preparation of elevated flower beds and paths in the fall, so that in the spring all attention can be focused on planting plants. Flowerbeds must be fenced with a wooden fence of the appropriate shape or a low hedge, curb, bricks, tuff stone. They serve as a protection for plants in flower beds, as well as a decorative decoration.

Low hedges of flower beds can be created from Japanese spirea, undersized spirea. Cutting short and interlacing the branches creates a dense and stable hedge or curb. The main care of the curb is to trim in late autumn, at the end of growth, as well as in summer, when they are limited only to cutting dry parts of plants. Let's go back to decorating the flower garden. The planting material is flower perennials.

For the longest flowering in the center of the flower beds, we choose spring, summer and autumn flowering perennials, and for the edge of the flower beds - low-growing plants that can create a border: thyme, mint, Ayuga, etc. In the flower beds I recommend planting groups of perennials. They create extremely effective arrays. Flowers prevail here, distinguished by cheerful, far-visible colors, fragrant flowers (various astilbe, lilies, monarda, peonies and others). A wider assortment of plants creates unwanted variegation. Such a flower garden can be surrounded by beautifully blooming jasmine, viburnum, lilac, Japanese quince, barberry. In general, the flower garden is a picturesque place on the site.

Here is a list of plants from my scheme:

- lily hybrids;

- peonies;

- meadowsweet;

- hosts;

- jasmine;

- monard;

- delphinium;

- astilbe;

- liatris;

- tiger lilies;

- clematis;

- lilac;

- barberry;

- paniculata phlox, paniculate;

- daylilies;

- irises;

- almonds;

- Japanese quince.

Another layout (see figure 2) is a classic example of a formal kitchen garden. The square layout is the hallmark of the symmetrical garden beds, separated by paths that invite visitors to stroll, relax and enjoy the vegetable plantations.

The planted plants adorn the beds for almost the entire growing season. The center of the flower bed is occupied by container plants, for example, ampelnaya strawberries or Mount Everest varieties; climbing plants (sweet peas, bean bush), peppermint, ornamental cabbage or small architectural forms. They all play the role of a dominant. As a container, you can use brick vessels, plastic containers, old baskets.

This area requires good lighting. It can be isolated from the flower garden, adjacent directly to it or to the orchard. When choosing plants for the main plantings in the beds, we will focus on such crops as cabbage (broccoli, cauliflower, Chinese and other varieties), salads of various shapes and colors, parsley, basil and other green plants that always look aesthetically pleasing. The list of plant species used for the kitchen garden is unlimited.

It all depends on your needs and taste. The lettuce beds are outlined with a border of various varieties of parsley - corrugated, curly and leaf. On the central beds - creeping thyme, white or white with red. Most crops used for the garden require a lot of light and sun, good nutritious land, drainage, regular watering, top dressing and weeding.

Small globular willows are located in the corners around the kitchen garden. Along the side of the plantation there is a neatly-cut barberry and a luxurious host of the same variety or alternating two or three varieties of different sizes and colors. Inside the central beds, metal benches look great, emphasizing the uniqueness of the garden. Below I offer my layout and a list of plants in the kitchen garden:

- spherical willow;

- climbing or ampelous plants in containers or on supports, playing the role of a dominant (nasturtium, mint, strawberry, etc.)

- red leaf salad - lettuce forming large curly rosettes of red-brown leaves;

- white thyme;

- leaf parsley;

- curly parsley;

- head salad; (Excitement, Berlin yellow, May, Stone head) for summer consumption;

- head salad for consumption at the end of summer (Odessa curly, Great Lakes); <

- basil;

- barberry;

- fern;

- red thyme;

- chubushnik;

- lilac;

- hosts;

- willow matsudan;

- bench.
